I want to get into off-road and trail riding and have decided to get a XC or Trail hardtail that can handle a little bit of everything. Lighter forest preserve trails in the Midwest now, and more mountainous terrain once I move to Colorado.
Components are pretty easy to compare, but Geometry is more difficult to understand. I’m 6’6” (198cm) and 220 pounds, and without a lot of XL/XXL inventory in local stores, I’m relying heavily on online resources to make the best decision regarding fit.
Some bikes I have on my radar, trying to stay under $1,500:
– 2023 Canyon Grand Canyon 5: $798 after shipping (plus $ later for fork upgrade), 660 stack/475 reach
– 2024 Trek Roscoe 6 (updated geometry): $1,199 at LBS, 666 stack/495 reach
– 2023 Kona Honzo: $1,275 after shipping, 673 stack/515 reach
– 2022 Orbea Laufey H10, $1,488 after shipping, 664 stack/484 reach
Also looked at the Canyon Stoic 2 and the Kona Honzo DL, but I just missed the great sale on the Honzo DL and both of those bikes have a shorter stack height. Also, not as well suited to the majority of the riding I’d do. I think realistically I should lean more towards a XC frame.
I’d really appreciate any advice you have on best fit and value of the options above. Also, let me know if I’m missing any that should be on my list! Thanks!
