In the Netherlands 27% of all journeys are made by bicycle. That and more figures in this video. More information and sources in the blog post: https://bicycledutch.wordpress.com/?p=9210
i want to live in the country in which people use bicycle , talk with each other face to face rather than Mobile , have independence , human relations are respected and strong…..
The fact that in a biking country where people bike everywhere they need to, they only bike 1000km a year is also impressive. It means things are close by. For comparison, my route for a fitness bike ride in an American suburb is 14km total. a 4km round trip to work on a bike sounds heavenly.
What all these videos forget to mention is that many people WALKS to the shops. A bicycle is not needed when the shops are 550 meters away. This holds for many people.
I hope the future in Canadian cities looks more and more like the Dutch cities. Cycling is quiet, affordable, good for personal fitness, good for public health, and a ton of fun. All this electric car stuff may be a necessary improvement for environmental reasons, but within cities, cycling has way more benefits to offer to civilization. Hooray for the Netherlands, leading the way. And thanks for this channel, eh? From Canada.
cycling is second nature here in NL, we learn it very young and kids go to school and from 12yo or even younger kids go by them selves to school because its safe and busy so there is always people around taking care of each other if something would happen but traffic wise its easy to go around here safely, walking, cycling or by car. i have been in many countries and i think its because there is less aggression towards each other because the car driver also has a bike and knows the situation of those cycling. Also if a car hits a pedestrian or a "cyclist" its almost always the fault of the car driver because the others are the weaker road participants and car drivers have to take care of what they do around them, pedestrian and cyclist safety is also part of our driving courses.
No wonders that in the Netherlands percentage of fat people is also low. If averagely a person rides 1000 km per year, this is about 20000 kcal in a year. More than 2 kg of pure fats.
I'm Dutch. I used to attend Utrecht University. I was an International Law Student. I would have graduated in December 2021 with a master's degree. Unfortunately, because The Netherlands does not believe in laws to mandate head protection, I fell off my bicycle on August 10th, 2021, and passed away on the 11th at 22.03. I sustained brain bruising, swelling, and pressure that couldn't be relieved. I was only 23 and born on November 22, 1997. My name was Lara.
The ammount of non duch people makes me fear for the nations future. I think bycicle infrrastructure is grate but they are less important than a free fatherland.
I'm hoping my country will build special road for our daily cycling. If there is a special road to cycling from Bogor to Jakarta, I prefer use my bicycle for daily activity.
There are still improvements made in Amsterdam, now they are creating a ring around the center with "fietsstraten' . bikeroads: cyclepath so wide cars can join at low speed. Because there is good alternative for cars just outside this ring very few cars are on the bicycle main road. Now it is really easy to ride around the center instead of through it. The difference in cyclepaths with only 10 years ago is tremendous, It is not so long ago that a substantial part of cycle paths were made of concrete tiles which especially on busy spots became very bumpy, now allmost everything is in red asphalt, and they get wider and wider.
Another thing I love is the system of signs with numbers, junctions have numbers and there is a map at every number. These signs are mainly for recreational cycling. Last weekend I have ridden 4 1/2 hours in Drenthe without any planning ahead, totally relaxed, deciding which way to go at every 'knot-point' with very low risk to get lost.
The fact that there are more km done by car than by bikes tells a lot about the housing problem. And also, the opportunity they have from reducing car parking facilities/norms.
I looked up the prices of importing a brand new dutch bike with all the bells and whistles, to Norway.. 13.000 NOK!.. Almost had a heart attack, but one day i'll buy one.
The reason there are more cyclists in Amsterdam and Utrecht has nothing to do with education , it has everything to do with parking prices , and city centers where cars are just hard to get around with. The countryside and the smaller cities and towns outside the Randstad and Eindhoven don't have nearly the infrastructure for bicycles , and public transportation is really bad outside the Randstad. Therefore more use of cars . But you are not the first or last to use Amsterdam as an average for the whole of the Netherlands , huge mistake , because the rest of the Netherlands is nothing like the Hollands and Utrecht.
The 70% streets with 30 km/h are important, because these are also 70% that do not need dedicated bike lanes. So the cities save a lot of money to build better bike lanes alongside the other, faster roads. Because bicycles on a residential street makes it (slightly) slower and thus safer. Bicycles on a main road however are rolling obstacles and thus dangerous, as they are way slower – even the lycra gang.
Yeah…but also… in the Netherlands (where I live) the bicycle is also a symbol of freedom after WWII…all the Dutch had to hand over their bikes to the germans to be recycled into arms…a bit like what you see now in Ukraine with washingmachines…

I love cycling 🚲🚲🚲❤️❤️❤️❤️ I am from India
The Dutch will never know the thrill of speeding down a big hill
This is one of the reasons why the Dutch are the most content and fit people in the world.

How many cyclists do not have lights on in the dark ?
How many cyclists play with their mobile phone during cycling, which is not allowed ?
i notice none of them use helmets. I always though they were a nuisance, more of a bother. I hate them.

Permission to use some clips ofnthis video.. thank you💗
they aren't even cyclists, that's just how they travel to get around in their communities.
You have Amsterdam, and you have the Netherlands, really not the same thing…

Please send me one old used bike ? From ethiopia
Bike riding is fun
That's it. Infrastructure. We need infrastructure that's more friendly for bikes. Without that, most cyclists won't feel comfortable on the road.
You can ad 609 246 to the 17 million…(Feb.2022)
i go by bike to school, its 11km to get there since i live in the countryside. so i bike 22km per day when its a school day.

Beautiful shots of Amersfoort!! Not many YouTubers have discovered my city

Almost had a heart attack, but one day i'll buy one.
Dutch are beautiful people , just their language is so ugly
Higher educated people have a healthier lifestyle than the less educated.
How does a 1.3 bike per person look like
The Dutch are fit and healthy because they cycle everyday.

1000km per year? That's not realy much.
I wish usa 🇺🇸 were friendly ciclismo cities
This looks like heaven to me.
-An American (who wishes he could ride his bike to work)
Why don't the rest of the world have this as a goal?! 🙄🙄🙄
the footage on this video is great.
2:38 Darth Vader walking down the street.. 🙂
I like to imagine the grinch invading the Netherlands at night to steal all their bicycles.
Where are the mopeds
Wow I want to live there. Hawai could learn from the Dutch. Please teach our mayor how you did this.

Still too many cars. Raise taxes on them a lot. Get rid of them.
i remember years ago in china they cycle more then cars. Now, there are so many cars that they can't even see the sky any more. lol :p
