How’s it going of and fire fans it’s Grant from Yeats Miniatures and thank you for joining me for my next step into the season 4 update today we’re going to be looking at the manipulative and Wealthy forces of the wardens of the West House Lannister so join me and

Brett as we Pace the streets of Kings Landing making our way to the red keep and start asking some questions about what changes have happened and how we can best use them if you do have any questions as always or any feedback do leave it in the comment section below

Grant and Brett from yat Miniatures so first up Brett how you doing hey man I’m doing pretty well how are you doing not bad mate not bad not bad I’m I’m getting a just finished watching another series of traitors which is quite apt for uh doing the House Lannister over you so

It’s awesome good stuff man good stuff have you been playing with h Lannister in season four uh yeah um I’ve been playing with him a little bit um even before the changes came down on much I decided to Circle back to Lannister and I I guess I’m glad I did because well

We’ll get to Night’s Watch but Lannister’s looking pretty good I Me overall the the changes weren’t like they didn’t get a ton of Buffs but they kind of didn’t lose too much and The Meta kind of shifted in a way now prior to this change I was already pretty high

On red cloaks I thought they were being underused um because since the change to mans and a few other things in the meadow but there’s too many people kind of stopped building the super high morale builds for the most part so I thought that red cloaks had an

Opportunity to squeeze their way into the meta make some things happen with the changes to Nights Watch uh yeah red cloaks just look even better I think it’d be really pretty simple to get the Nights Watch cards knocked off with jok and running about I think being able to

Basically do Panic tests on command I believe that red cloaks are one of the better units in The Meta right now awesome awesome I mean that’s really good to hear I especially because Red Cloak didn’t really get touched by like directly they’ve sort of just been

Buffed as a as a byproduct of everything else being sort of tweaked so we we’re going to get into um so the attachments first so there’s only one attachment change for the Lannisters and that is a change to might of the Iron Throne on Kevin Lannister protector of the realm

Obviously the the change to this one is that it’s now only melee attack so it can only make a melee attack or a charge action so that’s that’s a change that we I guess we sort of expected that because of the whole Kevin Lannister and crossbows thing but how does that affect

Your your relationship with Kevin Lannister I didn’t really run him I was planning to run him prior to the changes just because it’s nice to be able to have kind of a gunline build in Your Arsenal that said I’m not overly surprised that this happened um I don’t

Think anybody really should be I’m a little bit torn on it I think it’s good for the game because I I feel like he was a very oppressive uh he was a pretty oppressive Commander that said he’s still pretty strong and I think um I

Think he I know Jacob J Jacob of glaz Jacob from uh England was already running him in mountains men even when um even when you had the crossbow Mania going on so I think he still has a home I liked him in Cutthroats when I ran him I still think that’s incredibly strong

He’s got a home in red cloaks obviously there’s instant Synergy there with uh Cersei because you just plop Cersei down onto the crown take the free charge or free attack with Kevin uh you’ve got the crown to do the stuff with your red cloaks you grab a Hear Me Roar and it’s

Kind of a Cuda it works pretty well um again I had success playing Cersei with Kevin in Cutthroats kind of the same idea charger charger attack with Cutthroats off of the crown get your hear me roar from Cersei and blow units up it’s kind of it works but um that

Said overall it’s probably good for the game um the jury’s still out I have concerns Uh Kevin was a very very very strong counter to the free folk spam kind of lists so we’ll have to see if there’s other things in the meta that kind of kind of balance that it’s kind

Of a system of checks and balances inside the game and as long as you’ve got a couple of things that are popular that can really put a build in check I think that it’s mostly fine um I think baratheons might be able to pick up some

Of the slack on you know checking free folk so we’ll have to see yeah definitely definitely it’s a sensible change and again it’s just a very a small one for now and hopefully if it doesn’t work out they’ll come back and revisit but that’s attachment change for

The listers next up we have the units so up on screen now we have the Kings guard now these seen quite I think this is a very very good uh buff to the unit um I honestly do I think yeah we we’ll go through the card now so basically

They’ve given them the order resilience they’ve removed iron resolve but they have improved the morale from five plus to four plus so you s get half of the iron resolve R rolled into the new morale stat um and it’s quite nice I mean we we see on the the designer notes

They say giv the Kings guard a glow up because while they are Fierce it was always difficult to overlook the fact they only eight wounds to the unit um I quite like what they’ve done here I think resilience is is really really good for Kings guard especially

Considering we’ve seen the loss of the king is dead on Joffrey in a previous update I think it makes Joffrey command and the Kings guard quite quite a decent choice for laner armies are you are you running Kings guard I do like Joffrey I lik Joffrey prior to this buff to the

King’s Guard um Joffrey he’s one of those situations where I think he’s really fun he’s fun because he’s kind of polarizing as a commander I think his cards are good I think they’re strong um Traders I will have their heads you could make a case to maybe give that one

A buff but with the right units in the list I think that that Joffrey has some play is he like a meta pick like I’m gonna run Joffrey and win an event a huge event because I ran Joffrey no but you could win um he’s kind of he’s kind of an

Unexpected I think when you play Joffrey you have to go all in with a death star now the Kings guard are a pseudo Death Star they can definitely get things done when you pop all of the Banners at once and just go in they can make things

Happen but if you’ve got a really really nasty unit as well then you can you can make some good stuff happen because you got Tyrion to guarantee that you get card you will obey me is just so nasty as a card and so if you’re running something like flaman with mounted

Gregor I run brigin with mounted Gregor in that list I think they’re fine you don’t have to spend the points on flad men you can kind of beef the list out with other choices um you’ve got to have you’ve got to have Tyrion though the the

Only way that this list works is when you get that Traders or when you get you will obey me and your death star unit gets that really disgusting charge preferably you’ve got Tywin as well to shut off the any defensive abilities that they’ve got make sure that you kill

The unit and then hopefully you can snowball but it’s it’s a strong list it’s kind of like an an eggs in one basket kind of thing but it it can work it’s really fun to play I I encourage you to try it yeah yeah so I mean so so

How do you feel about the Kings guard though because obiously that’s a that’s a Sixpoint unit and arguably probably one of the best Sixpoint units in the game now with with their stats on screen they were already strong they were already strong and now they’re just even stronger um

They were misleadingly difficult to kill even with only eight wounds yeah now they’re going to be pretty pretty difficult to get rid of um if you they’re they’re susceptible to huge panic bombs but they I mean Lannisters can do it I was chucking negative FS negative sixes the other night when I

Was playing but there’s not a whole lot of factions that are doing those types of panic tests boltons can overwhelm you with panic the the neutrals can overwhelm you with chip Panic test but at a morale four most of them are pushing you to a seven yeah and

It’s still passable yeah but I don’t know it’s it’s I think it’s pretty good I think I think they’re it helps in terms of them taking chip chip wounds and panic tests um even with iron resolved that was something that they could have happened to them so I’m

Pretty happy with it extremely good change and I think it makes the King guard unit that should be rightly well even more feared than it was before um and we’ll talk a little bit about the rainbow G we get to brein as well because they’ve seen similar changes

Next up on the screen is the lannisport city watch so these have had two changes so one is that the mor has been improved from a 7 plus to a 6 Plus and there’s been obviously a change to Adaptive style which has gone across the board as

Universal change to that rule so the biggest part of it is adaptive style so now it says when this unit is when this unit attacks or is attacked before rolling attack dice choose one so this unit gains plus one to defense dice rolls and plus two to panic test rolls

Against this attack or this attack against critical blow and sanding so the main thing to take on Bold here is obviously we’ve lost the Precision we’ve lost the extra dice for the attack but it’s also it’s only that attack so it’s not for the entire round like it was um

Prior to this season 4 update we’ll talk about the gold the golden company SWS another time but how does this affect the land sports city watch for you will you still be running them it’s probably a no for me I was I was on the fence

With them before I know that there were some medalists that had Gregor inside the city watch and they were having some success with it um it’s not terrible gaining critical blow and sundering I think they were good before because you put Gregor in them and you know I didn’t

Hate Gregor and Guardsman just as a kind of a an interesting little take so I think when you have this the Adaptive style the old way you could simulate Gregor in guard with a little bit more punch and actually better defense uh no Lannister Supremacy but I’m kind of

Rambling on the point but let’s just let’s just say City guard we seeing a littleit bit of play or the city watch were seeing a little bit bit of play I think that they Clau astray from Golden company swords yeah I don’t hate that golden company swords have adaptive

Style so I don’t know um might just need to it’s it’s a tricky unit I don’t envy the Developers for this um if you make adaptive style too good you see golden company swords everywhere if you take adaptive style away from the L of sport City watch then what’s their what’s

Their role going to be that halberts don’t do is kind of this the the issue that you get into they would have to fill some role that’s not already covered by halberts and I think we’re back again to the point where I think halberts are just going to be better for

A point less I mean they’re just almost straight better and they cost a point less that’s that’s how I see it I totally agree man I think they caught a stray bullet from the golden compy swords thing so is what is in the D it um they’re they’re great models they’re

Great models I hope they find their way yeah 100% 100% um so that’s it for unit changes only two unit changes there for the for House Lannister next up we look at the ncus um so first up we have pel Grand Ma now they’ve they’ve sort of

Really struggled to find like a level ground for pel you know he he was originally a three-point ncu with weakened then they made him four points then they made him four points and can give up weaken and vulnerable and now he um now he’s obviously got three order

Tokens they can only do it three times per game they’ve taken vulnerable off him and he can only give out weeken now P was quite a decent lynchpin in most laner lists is he will do you think he’ll still see as much play how does this change affect the way that he’s

Going to be played going forward uh I still see some level of play I think that you debate if Shay is just a better choice at this point um I’m not really sure I’m a little bit sad about it I mean I ran pyel of course um I just

Don’t he’s just seems like he’s a weaker Shay now fortunately um that said you can still double up Shay and pyel dish out a lot of weekend it’s probably Overkill yeah I think it’s it’s probably okay that he got adjusted but he might be one that they keep tweaking if he had

Four order tokens and did Panic or and did weakened or vulnerable probably he would be fine maybe three being able to do either or could be okayish I’m not sure I don’t think this is his final happy place I don’t think he’s in his happy place right now I I do agree he

Was include and I see some sense of humor here I feel like this is Michael chinel the design notes say strun pisel that’s deliberate that’s pretty funny that’s pretty funny I’m I’m I’m actually enjoying seeing seeing some personality come out from the developers um it’s not the first time they’ve they’ve done

Little trolls here and there but they’re uh they’re shown some personality I quite like it actually definitely definitely um obviously next on the screen here we’ve got kurn as well master of Whisperers um we see the change to the little Dove Special Rule so he before he was essentially a

Different version of varis he’s now changed the way to do him so it now States kurn Begins the game with three order tokens on him each time an enemy in you activates you may remove one order token from kurn if you do choose two zones if that ncu claims either Zone

This turn after resolving that zones effect Target up to two enemy combat units they become vulnerable um Al that’s a mass changed the kurn we I didn’t really see him play before um but other than like a tech piece around the bags cuz obviously if your opponent took

The bags you could deal the wound before they actually use the bag itself um but I think this version of kurn is going to be played a lot more than that version have you managed to run him yet how are you playing him yeah I think I think

Kurn’s gonna see some play I really I like his ability I like the the tactics board manipulation I think he’s going to see a lot of play in a couple of different lists for the lanister um number one if you think about Bruce uh Commander he’s got whispered

Threats it’s a really strong card I mean if you really wanted to to be cheeky you could pop whispered threats and kurn probably put out three condition tokens at once yeah I still can’t imagine at the start of a round with the tempo that even the threat of three tokens is

Enough to stop an opponent from taking his own but it might actually be um that said you’re probably better to spread it out so essentially if you look at the Roose list with kurn you’ve got basically four times that an opponent activates an ncu and you can punish them

For uh doing something on the tactics board combine that with tommen who will get to um but just with Intrigue and subterfuge you’ve got like potentially six effects happening when they activate an ncu it’s a lot of tactics board manipulation so you can run a very very

Potent very potent control list if if you want to go that route I mean you can pretty well sell out to control you can do Roose Commander Tywin ncu kyber and tommen or you can run Tyrion there’s a lot there’s a lot that Lannisters can do

That I think needs to be kind of explored and looked at it it’s an exciting time to play Lannisters with the changes to the ncu and and pyel not being that auto lock it could be like a blessing in disguise because you you’ve got some pretty nasty denial style ncu

That you can play you can shut down a lot with the Lannister ncus and or at least punish them for making choices so yeah um I quite like it I like kurn I think you’ll see him in Gregor as well because he fills the void you know where

You need the vulnerable tokens he steps right in and kind of fills that in because Gregor doesn’t do the vulnerable charge anymore uh so you really need the vulnerable tokens when he charges to take the take the most advantage of that sundering yeah yeah I I think you’re

Right and I quite like the way that they’re manipulating the control and the tactic ball now because that to me is the way that um that has L should play Because all their all their Warfare is done by the politics side of isn’t it really yeah I’m I’m really enjoying

Playing them again because I feel like I don’t want to say big brain and and like make myself sound like I think I’m big brain yeah per se think of all of the factions um Lannisters Martell’s and free folk probably are your three your three big big brain play

Factions you can you can do some really good stuff if you’re good with tactics cards if you’re good with understanding the tempo and the flow of the game and knowing when to time your effects and when to best make your opponent uncomfortable I think they’re the most rewarding so I’m enjoying playing them

Yeah definitely definitely um so the last ncu Challenge on screen you just mentioned him Tom and braan next next in succession so we’ve seen the change to the Queen’s influence um ability all that’s changed here is that he now pulls out bribery if you take the bags and have’ changed that if

He takes the crown I believe he used to take back fil to the crown but now it’s Intrigue and sub auge um is that right yeah you’re correct yeah so um yeah I think ining on subus is a really good card for for for Lannisters and it’s

Well I’ll let you talk about it Tom and braian how you feel about the the chest of all barians I I’m literally split on it I cannot decide how I feel about this guy there was a time and and it might have even been all the way back in 1.6

But there was a time when I felt like if Lannisters had a way to cycle Intrigue and subterfuge I would have given anything to have that because at the time you had styr incu you had mans you had Walder fry you had um well any number of potent DCU we had

We had three pointers we had zero pointers but some of them were very game-changing in us and you just felt like I just need more intrigues now we have more intrigues and it’s it’s kind of the way the game has EB and flowed when you look at some things that laners

Want to counter it’s not necessar it’s not bad Intrigue is NE never bad it’s a great card but it’s not some of the things that you really want to stop they can’t do much about even with an Intrigue like uh Balon for example is specifically designed not to be blocked by intrigue

Um but there are plenty that are I’m I’d have to double check the rules but I’m pretty sure if you intrigue Aris oart he can’t sit on the swords over into the next round that’s a pretty big way to stop that play from happening for Martell’s so there’s definitely a time

There’s definitely a time that you’re going to want the intrigues I really liked him for FIY though I’ll have to see how it plays out I do think that there’s some strength to kurn and Tom so I’m in an exploring phase as well so I’m pretty excited about House Lannister

Actually it gives me gives me a chance to experiment with some things and it’s interesting what it does to open up list building things that you like well that’s not necessarily got the Synergy I need well now you’re rotating your incus and now synergies open up so it’s pretty

Exciting yeah definitely definitely we also see a little bit of humor in the um design design notes as well when it comes with tommen it is a little note at the bottom that says poor kid could use some additional play and some more time away from mother which I think we can he

Can all agree is probably a a positive change in his life um but yeah again people listening uh found combinations for these uh these Lannister interu please do leave a comment in the section below let us know how you’re using them give us some tips and uh if we win any

And Kevin Lannister’s predictable Maneuvers card now obviously the change to both of these cards have been changed to every single version of this card in the game OB you overrun now states that the unit can make a March action as well as a charge action when they surge forth

And Kevin Lannister’s card predictable Maneuvers is now changed to has to be the enemy’s first turn in a round it stops that uh last activation first activation onto the solds uh and it makes it more fluffy it’s definitely a more fluffy change um how do you feel about these two tactic cards

BR yeah I mean again with with predictable Maneuvers I think I think that it’s a change that probably should have happened it it it was a really strong card I think there’s there’s always NP in this game right negative play experience there are it’s going to be there and and everybody’s perception

Of what his negative play experience is different so I think this one though I think a lot of people really just felt like this card was just dunking on them it’s such a strong card um it’s essentially stealing an activation away depending on what’s in the list you

Really just a lot of the times you can’t afford to give that free action you just can’t do it and so you basically have to do nothing but there’s also the ability to trap you which was that that that was more that was more prominant in the mans

List mans could just literally trap you yeah for those of you who might not recall um if if your last aggravation was engaged with the change to not being able the idleness means death you had to take an action because you were engaged you either have to retreat or you have

To attack that means that they just got a free a free action and there’s nothing you can do about it so it’s it’s good it’s a good change I think overall for the game the The Meta can get a little stale now it’s changing every six months

I don’t even think the last meta was stale yet but we’re we’re on to a new one and I think for for some people they’re not going to like it but I encourage you to be open-minded and just try to digest all of the changes as much

As you can and just experiment with some new things if you’re able to process what the implications are from changes factions that were strong and kind of doing that gatekeeper rule if they’ve been removed you know try some different stuff out try something out that was

Being you know had its throat stomped on by by Kevin Lannister now now give it a try I mean you you see some cool stuff yeah definitely yeah I I think the game is is is probably the most balanced that we’ve seen it yet I mean if you go on

The stats website you know Mick and car got that website that shows you that the the rankings are fluttering all over the place all the time I and now Starks are top again different armies different factions different commanders fluctuating up and down it’s really good

Thing to see for the game I think the davs have received a lot of criticism over the years um you can determine if that’s Justified criticism or not but I think it would be hard for anyone to deny that and recently there have been changes coming from seon and from the

Developer side that indicate that they are giving this game attention you are seeing some humor from them I really can’t say how much I love these little these little tidbits it’s interaction with the community they’re showing some personality it’s it’s pretty funny yeah and it’s it’s encouraging that they’re

If they’re doing updates pretty consistently every six months I mean that tells you that they are they have to be play testing constantly they have to be putting a ton of energy into play testing to be able to release this stuff they’re they’re on it honestly I’m

Pretty happy with them um if you’ve played other games you know it’s nice to see developers responsive and fixing things that are broken and they’ve done it multiple times um they didn’t come out and say it but obviously they they gave us a season with super pyel and

They’ve walked back on it so it takes a lot it takes a lot to change something that you just changed yeah and you’re you’re basically admitting that you know hey we we made a mistake yeah and that’s good I think it’s good I think we’re I

Think we’re in a good time to be playing A Song of Ice and Fire right now 100% 100% so yeah so that that’s us done for the um for Lannister mate there’s some really nice changes there some questionable changes but I think overall quite positive stuff ask Lannister is

There any final words you’d like to add before we wrap this this show up today no I think I think just overall I think the Lannister roster is wide open I think um I think it would do everyone some good uh that’s playing Lannisters to just kind of go back to the drawing
