You still remember me how many players you going to see out that Premiership it’ll be remembered 30 odd years later not many well I think I’m very skillful probably one of the most skillful in the country I think so and I’m told so so I

Leave it at that Stan the Man a lexican of football skills a bit of a gypsy they said likable off the field bold and Brash on it the shot by balls yes took it so coolly stand balls with the obligatory hairstyle of the 70s BS had a

Habit of parting defenses his clust on the ball and deaf touches brought him his own fan club balls still balls will this be the fourth yes stly balls middle someone slung I know how to read I didn’t POS for it it just happened it was me and Don Shanks actually but I

Scored down direct from the corner there as well I can remember putting the finger up like test the wind and it went in we had such an understanding at Club level like telepathic I could play things blind and he could do the same and uh really really enjoyed playing together and uh in

Training we just clicked in the first 10 15 minutes and I built my game round him and he built my this game around mine I knew where he was I didn’t even have to look where he was I find him don’t worry cuz my manager at crew said if you if

You um put your head together go with carile this is’s a long way away you know he said you’ll play for England and he was exactly right bows had to bypass many doubters on his way to the England team but eventually he won five caps and

Scored just one goal it’s Keith well now trying a l one that’s a goal that is a goal Str balls has scored his first International goal as he starred in Dave seon’s Lively QPR team which came second in the first division in

1976 BS a CH oh it’s a b goal you got to remember we went into Europe and and played very well with Rangers BS had a purple patch in the UEFA cup scoring 11 goals in eight matches I can remember the the goal against cologne when I broke the record European record Clem

All those a gap there here’s balls yes oh that’s the record he wanted to play he wanted to please he wanted to score goals he wanted to create goals he wanted to beat people he wanted to push it through someone’s legs that’s what football was about no under the right

Foot that’s there that’s to and that’s balls there was a period there um I felt Invincible The Click On by BS who immediately moves for the return which he gets from Don Masson and Cipher the ball home BS was now a genuine star what advice would you give to

Yourself now if you could go back and advise yourself now with wisdom on your side nothing really I done everything entertain the crowd and uh the best thing of all time for seven years I I left every day and that was it had a fantastic time especially at QPR that goes without [Applause]

  1. My mates and I, in Australia, used to love watching 'The Big Match' in the 70s hosted by Brian Moore. Our favourite teams to watch were West Ham and QPR; If someone made a great save on the school oval, the cry would go up: "Mervyn Day!" And if the ball went in: "Stan Bowles!" He played with Football Joy.

  2. Bless him. Remember him taking a corner once against Everton I think. He picked some grass threw it in the air for wind direction, took the corner and QPR scored. Class entertainer. RIP stan.

  3. Amazing footballer & great character. Took a lot of stick on the pitch in the days of real tackling & a lot of stick from opposition fans… Took it all with a smile & a swagger. What a player.

  4. I'm born and bred from shepherds Bush, went to Christopher Wren high school round the corner from QPR so naturally an R's supporter. I use to take Stan's bets when he had a flutter in the E Coomes betting shops both in west Ealing and Brentford. QPR's most talented player RIP. His autobiography is a great read and funny.

  5. Growing up in England in the 70’s and 80’s I remember Bowles career well. I think he might have played against Southend at Roots Hall when I lived there. I remember though he had this really exaggerated dive when he got tackled, going down with both arm outstretched in front of him. Very gifted player on a very good QPR team. An expat in Florida.

  6. Rip Stan, I am a gooner but remember him and your team in the mid 70s. probably the best London team at that time. Also bumped into him a couple of times at Wembley dogs. Players like him did not get enough England caps in those days. Also had a pint with him in Amerettos club in the early 80s.(across the A40) from your old training ground. He will be greatly missed.
