Knowing which way the traffic is flowing as a basic skill, which every road user should have. Some decide to ignore this though!

Hi everyone welcome to cycling fail number eight where we’re going to be looking at cyclists who fail to do the most basic things correctly in case you missed it here it is again in slow motion they were riding way too fast and they were on the pavement and seeing the car coming the

Other way my viewer made them Panic it was a good job my viewer was driving at an appropriate speed so they could stop to fix this mess I wonder how many toxic cyclists are now going to try and lay this one on my viewer for going through that amber Light the highway code states that drivers and Riders must give way to pedestrians who are on a zebra Crossing in this situation it was the pedestrians who gave way to the cyclist I think the car in front of the cyclist should have given way so there’s definitely no excuses for the

Rider if you’re more vulnerable surely you should pay as much attention as you can for me it was a good job this cyclist was still while they were using the mobile phone how is this not illegal by the way here’s a good idea let’s ride the wrong way up a dual carriageway you’d

Have to be absolutely idiotic to do this at least the one at the front had lights on the one at the back didn’t if you use a oneway street it doesn’t really take that much intelligence to work out that you can only go in One Direction these Graphics were added by

My viewer do you think the cyclist coming from the opposite direction knows that it’s a one way or is it more likely he doesn’t care well I’m going with the latter because it happens all the time on this street apparently this is just blatant disregard for the rules that are there

In place to keep us safe at roundabouts you give way to the right unless you’re like this cyclist who just goes and expects everyone else to look after him another zebra Crossing and another Rider who fails to look after people more vulnerable than themselves unfortunately there’ll still

Be some from the toxic cycling community that will try and justify this this clip’s from Liverpool it’s not mine but we’ve got someone else who’s struggling with with the direction of travel what on Earth you can’t get more basic than what a red light means didn’t see it or

Didn’t care please let me know in the comments it’s pretty obvious one though isn’t it I saw a clip recent on X where Chris Martin the emergency response driver had to deal with a cyclist that didn’t have any lights and was wearing dark clothing he was bizly questioned by some of the

Toxic cycling Community even though he did a brilliant job to save the guy’s life cycle lights are not that expensive and it also says in the highway code that you must display a white light at the front and a red light at the back you must also display a red rear

Reflector which this cyclist on the left has but he’s got none of the other requirements the speed that you drive at allows you to deal with situations like this my viewer here did well but also puts things into perspective how well Chris did in his situation nice job to both of

You a terrible overtake with no thought whatsoever some more problems with direction of flow again fixed by the motorist yet again some more problems with direction of flow this one’s pretty dangerous this as well but at least they had some lights on I’m not sure what was shouted by one of

The other Road users but I’m pretty sure it wasn’t complimentary terrible filtering with a kid on board also the oncoming vehicle also is risking a fine by using the bus lane I would have stayed in the lane too and held back and stopped although the infrastructure is

Good in London I do think it’s one of the worst areas for cycling and it’s simply because of the impatience some more London examples again it’s just people not following basic rules that keeps everyone safe some more legal phone use but here’s an interesting question would the motorist instantly be held

Accountable if you knock them off even if it wasn’t your fault please let me know if you know of any cases similar to what I’ve just explained this is the reason why training and leading by example are really important but it also demonstrates why it’s vital that all motorists take care

With their driving so they can look after anyone who rides a bike don’t forget a mistake on a bicycle is much more likely to be fatal keep safe everyone I’ll see you soon

  1. What’s with the constant "toxic cycling community" references? I have always liked your fair and impartial analysis. The world has enough stereotypes without creating more. Yes X has community that cannot reflect on what they share and accept responsibility for defensive cycling. The responsible cyclists are being punished on the roads for the vine/mikey backlash. Please don’t fuel more hatred

  2. What was the difference between the cyclist @ 2:45 and the driver of the camera car ? Both were moving on to the crossing as the pedestrians reached the island. I wonder if the toxic driver community will try to justify their behaviour ?

  3. As a commuter cyclist I gotta say you are spot on with this video. These type of people give people like me a bad name, but its the same with peds and car drivers.

  4. 0:10 chav on a bike! I much prefer them on a bike than in a car. They shouldn't have been riding on the pavement, especially like that, but the road the cammer turns into doesn't look that inviting to the novice cyclist.

  5. 1:42 looks like the council should remove parking from one side of this street and put in a contraflow cycle lane. A place to store your property on the highway should be a lower priority than providing safe routes for cyclists. There must be a reason 'it happens all the time on this street'.

  6. Not sure why someone legally looking at his phone for less than a second, whilst causing no issue, is a “cycling fail.” 5:57

What was the educational value of the clip?

Maybe “Cyclist using phone may be distracted”? But what’s next… video of “driver adjusting the aircon.”

  7. My wife has the misfortune to need a guide dog. In the last few years she has been ridden into by cyclists on 2 occasions, both times the cyclists were on the pavement, both times it left her very shaken up. Both times the cyclist failed to stop to see if she and her guide dog were ok. Another huge issue is the people who are so transfixed on their phone that they walk straight into her. Indeed on the most recent occasion the woman who walked into her exclaimed "are you blind" before realising she was. At least this individual apologised, which is most unusual.

  8. If you think the cyclists in London are bad, go to Oxford Cory centre, much worse. If you want to make your own bad cyclist video just spend an hour in Oxford and you’ll have more footage than you could use, especially at night.

  9. It is a shame that Ashley saw fit to repeatedly use the unnecessary and inflammatory term "toxic cyclist" which only serves to perpetuate the antagonism that some drivers have toward cyclists and vice versa. Doesn't the use of this term make Ashey a "toxic driver"?

Surely it would be more constructive to encourage greater understanding of other types of road user than to trade insults.

  10. Cyclists in dark clothing with no lights at night is my all-time number one pet hate while driving. I do a lot of night-time driving, and see far too many of these potential organ-donors.
Running red lights and riding the wrong way on one-way streets are a close second and third.

  11. Big fan of your work Ashley but 30 seconds into the video and you've already made a comment about toxic cyclists, not sure who exactly has the problem here…

  12. I ride a bike most nights for exercise. I have 5 lights always illuminated (some flashing) at the back and can illuminate 4 on the front (for redundancy). I wear Yellow PPE with the "scotch strips". My helmet has a yellow waterproof snug-fit cover of similar material and shiny markings. "Lit up like a Christmas Tree". I want to be seen from a distance. I want you to know I'm there and be able to judge my speed and direction properly as you prepare for the almost inevitable overtake.

It's usually teenagers or young men who go out dressed in dark clothing. They don't realise – as I now do – that as we reach our later decades, our eyesight gets poorer and our reaction times get slower. This is perfectly normal in older people, but younger people don't have the experience or understanding that us old fogeys can't see nor react as well as they can / do. BTW as an aside: for those who want to froth and tell me that my eyesight doesn't reach the standard, save it because it certainly more than did at my last recent eye test: Perfectly within normal for a man of my age said the optician.

Of all of these cycle crimes, the only one I will sadly admit to is proceeding against a red light HAVING STOPPED FOR IT FIRST when it becomes quite apparent that "they don't know I am there" and I would or could otherwise be sitting there like a complete prat waiting for a car driver to set the sensors off. IT IS UNACCEPTABLE THAT I END UP HAVING TO DO THIS BECAUSE THE TRAFFIC LIGHTS DON'T WORK! I never just amble through any red light when anyone else (pedestrian or motorist) is there and / or there is every reasonable chance they will change for me in reasonably due course!!!!

Back to the thrust of the video. I would like to see the police stop the kids on their unlit bicycles and offer them the option of a FPN or the opportunity to demonstrate that they will now push their bikes home by pulling out the valves to the inner tubes (similar to the way people with tinted glass are invited to pull the tint off or face the consequences. I think that cyclist who ride through red lights "with abandon" as per the example in this film, people who ride where they wouldn't or shouldn't be expected ought to get FPN's or the offer of "a course."

REMEMBER: Just like other things in life generally, we all need to respect each other AND OURSELVES. The roads can be very dangerous places. Let us all use them properly and respect the rights of others in doing so too and not leave them with the worst impression of ourselves! Stay safe everyone

  13. I will dismount and stand on the pavement (if the traffic engineers are thoughtful enough to have provided one, as they don't on many rural routes, can afford a car path, but not a footpath, y'know) if I need to take a phone call.

  14. A one-way street with parked cars either side? They could easily remove parking from one side and have a 2-way bike lane there. More wasted space! No room for bikes because we must store peoples private property on the side of the street, perhaps I should build a shed to store my belongings on the side of the road!

  15. I've posted this question 3 times now, but for some reason it keeps vanishing;
What is wrong with the cycling @ 5:39 ?
That is Holland Park Roundabout which probably doesn't mean much to someone who lives over 200 miles from London
All the junctions have Toucan crossings connecting a cycle path that goes round the outside
    So on to the cyclists;
1 – comes from behind the car and joins the cycle path
2 – uses the Toucan crossing as it was designed
3 – comes off the cycle path and joins the road
I look forward to your response

  16. This happens all over the UK. It's time for licences, insurance and road tax for cyclists. If you are a motorist who also cycles then you can be covered by your driving licence but you could then have points put on your licence for cycling offences like jumping a red light. That would make these half-wits behave a bit better.

  17. Why do you repeatedly refer to the cycling community as "Toxic"? Particularly when your channel info states you have had enough of the conflict between different road users. Your bias is pretty clear when you refer to any one group as "toxic"

  18. There's a road near me that is one way except cycles, but no car drivers are aware of the (poorly marked) cycle lane, or the sign that says its one way except cycles, but then they'd have to have eyes in the back of their heads.

  19. This behaviour is just rife. Everywhere. While there are plenty of good cyclists, is it any wonder there are so many cyclist hating drivers? Maybe prejudiced, but it's animal instinct to just hate the lot.

  20. I see this in the news, whilst I don't agree with using a mobile phone while driving,, who made cyclists the judge and jury.. A cyclist who reported a driver for using his mobile phone at the wheel has found himself being accused of breaking the law.

Dave Clifton, 56, spotted a Range Rover driver holding a phone handset while he was cycling through Belgravia, and he captured the incident on his helmet cam. 😂😂😂😂😂

  21. People are the problem, it's not the mode of transport. An idiot in a car is probably also an idiot when they are on a bike. The method of transport didn't make them the idiot, their actions did.

  22. The over use of the word toxic made you sound like Britney, once was sufficient. There’s no shortage of tribal people who will defend the indefensible and resort to deflection… without doubt that was a litany of typical poor behaviours that can we witnessed every day in most towns and cities.

  23. Straight off the bat you're baiting cyclists by stating we're gonna defend a chav idiot on a 5th hand halfords special.

There's cyclists and then there are people on bikes.

You share more in common with those two in your opening scene than most actual cyclists do.

You're really getting desperate nowadays Arseley

  24. So many riding at night without lights near me and many are on the pavements. But due to the state of the roads it's probably safer for them.
Crazy though how many cyclists put themselves and others in danger without a thought, but then expect others to keep them safe. One can only imagine what they like behind the wheel of a car.

  25. Toxic cycling community? This is encouraging dangerous hate speech. I've cycled for 60 years, I'm not part of any community. I call out idiocy on the road by any road user. Lump idiots into their own special group, but trying to encourage hate towards a group that only has in common it's mode of transport is both dangerous and irresponsible.

  26. That clip with Chris is just shocking, that cyclist was fully invisible until the last second, its hard enough in lit city and town streets to see cyclists in the dark with no lights on and dark clothing let alone on unlit rural roads, scary really 😱😨 Chris did so well there 👏

  27. I've never understood the mentality of not having lights.
These people spend a £1000 or more on a bike.
But won't spend £5 on a set of lights

  28. I did have the misfortune to see a 'cyclist' riding down the hard shoulder of the M4 a few years ago. My assumption was that he wanted to get to work at the services between J11 & J12, which would have been the next available exit. Madness!

  29. More concerning at 4:12 car parked facing traffic flow, getting common this practice.
Used to have 4 lights on my bike, one flashing and one static both ends. I also wore reflective gear.
I would never ride a bike these days as roads too busy, modern cars poor vis, in the right or not dead is dead.

  30. 6:01 Why is the narrator spreading misinformation “legal phone use”

A person is to be regarded as cycling dangerously if the way they rides falls far below what would be expected of a competent and careful cyclist, and it would be obvious to a competent and careful cyclist that cycling in that way would be dangerous. Dangerous refers to danger of injury to any person, or serious damage to property.
When determining what would be obvious to a competent and careful cyclist regard shall be given not only to the circumstances which they could be expected to be aware but also to any circumstances shown to have been within the knowledge of the accused.

So surely phone use is dangerous cycling
