As I tire of trying to find a battery for my NYCeWheels kit on the Brompton, I am being forced to consider either a new aftermarket kit or a new compact folding bike (our Tern Vekron is nice, but not the same)…or considering scooters.

Since the Brompton is made in the UK, it seems all the electric kits are made with UK laws in mind, which means barely 15mph, and I really need two things: 20mph and a throttle.

Do such kits exist as a turnkey solution my local Brompton shop or a complete non-mechanical person like me can install?

Feeling a little annoyed that I am being stalled by a stupid battery just because getting reliable information has been nearly impossible. Serves me right I suppose for getting an aftermarket kit?

**UPDATE:**

1. Looks like the Swytch Kit would be the overall winner if I decide to replace the NYCeWheels kit.
2. I did finally hear back on another forum about batteries for the NYCeWheels kit, and Grin Tech’s (hopefully) upcoming [LiGo 10X](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EdyMuPfH4iU) might be just the thing. I mean the older [LiGo](https://ebikes.ca/product-info/grin-products/ligo-batteries.html) would have worked if they were still available.

So my plan right now is to patient for a bit longer and see if the Grin Tech LiGo 10x makes it out the door this year. If so, I’ll go that route. If this new batery tech fails, then I’ll start talking to Swytch.

  1. I have the newest Gen 3 Swytch kit on a Brompton S6L, with the battery mounted where the carriage block goes. It folds seamlessly. The only drawback is that I have to either fit a rear rack or carry a backpack and there is no room to mount the Brompton front light in front of the brake as the wires interfere with it. Small price to pay. It also can be set to assist up to 32km/h but ships with the default setting of 25. Easy to change with the OLED display.

  2. Is your only issue needing a battery?

I’d take a look through the ebike subs. Most of these kits are simply a bunch of Chinese components people cobbled together and sold in kit form.

Trust me they weren’t designed and manufactured by those selling them.

If your NYCe motor is still good I’d look into just a new battery.

I have a C-line with the latest swytch kit (max battery) + front battery mount option called the ‘bro-block’ which does indeed replace where the usual Brompton bag mount would go. I’m not bothered at all about losing that theoretical function as I’ve got a much better motor assist product: 32km/h top speed, super neat OLED display and great power options. I also bought the throttle but never bothered installing. I have to say, after testing the official Brompton e-bike I would always choose Swytch. I found the official version slow, clunky and with no screen, very basic. Hope this helps.
