As someone from Germany who does not consume as much US mainstream media, do they really all say that Ukraine is doing well? Here we had the recent reports on struggles, especially with equipment and ammunition.
The russians have IFF right? Why would they be shooting at one of their own aircraft squaking friendly?
Dude, you guys are way behind the news curve. There’s been geolocated video footage of the A-50 wreck on the ground for days now.
Russia says they shot down their own A-50. Ukraine says they shot down an A-50. Seems to me the only question is who shot it down, regardless a second A-50 was lost.
While I agree with the sentiment that we are adults who should be given only the facts and let us do what we will with them, I am a bit cautious. It is actually something I remember from Machiavelli. He points out that the Prince who is always truthful is at a disadvantage to those who are willing to lie to get what they want. Russia has shown absolutely zero hesitation when it comes to spreading disinformation and sewing discord here in the US. Are we convinced that simply giving people the facts is going to be defense enough? I wish I could be optimistic, but recent history is a strong check on my optimism.
I find it interesting that people who support Russia also complain about how our media lies to us. It’s like getting mad at your dog for biting, then slathering yourself in BBQ sauce and jumping into a pit of hungry lions.
One question for you guys, an AWACS is a huge radar in the sky, have missiles ever been designed to home in on airborne radars? Imagine a Phoenix type missile (eg long range) with an anti-radiation seeker? Or a smaller missile that can home in on the radar of a fighter? In BVR fights they always start with both sides lighting each others RWRs up like a xmas tree. You fire a missile back and rather than tracking the aircraft using a radar you track their radar. Since they don't see a lock and a missile warning they may keep their radar facing you which the missile can still see. Obviously such tech relies on the missile seeker remaining in the radar pizza slice of the target fighter. Could be similar to Home-on-Jam capability.
Couple of points:
1) you played the video from the point of impact, that is the flaming wreckage falling not countermeasures.
2) there is a few minutes of flares before impact
3) Russia cannot say they lost anything, aircraft, warships, tanks because they tell the Russian public they already won.
Suchomimus and Denys Danydov both addressed this in their videos and the former had stills from the crash site that allude to the A-50.

We see videos of Russian Meat Attacks and that they are suffering huge losses in men and material yet, there are Americans, like Tucker Carlson and the retired Colonel who say that all the news we get is lies and the Russian Army is slaughtering Ukraine. Then again, how can you trust an Air Force that puts tires on their airplane wings.

After watching your video and looking closer at the debris, I’m not seeing where that airfoil would match up to anything on an A-50. It appears to be an elevator that’s independent of the horizontal stabilizer. The A-50 is massive and obviously has a large stabilator and trim tab. So, it rules out that section of the airplane. Besides, the piece shown is way too small to be either of those. So, that leaves the tip of the massive wing or the end of the aileron or the edge of the outer flap. Based of photos of the A-50, it too small and/or the wrong shape.
There’s obviously going to be a very large debris field and even with an explosion, there will be large sections of the airframe. The rotodome is 35 feet in diameter, 6 feet thick and is attached by two 10 foot struts. There will be some evidence of that radar dome.
Let’s see photos of the debris during the DAY and a portion of the radar dome.

It was likely a MANPAD launched by Ukrainian commandos in Russia near the takeoff/landing path of the A-50. Explains why it was down low, slow to maneuver and using flares. Anything launched from Ukraine a) wouldn't have the range and b) would be seen early enough to be avoided from 100+ miles away. I doubt it was "friendly fire" either since the A-50 is the most 'integrated" part of the whole air defense network, so a SAM site NOT knowing it was there is just inconceivable.
YES!! You guys use the REAL NATO designations and you are actual REAL fighter pilots. I'm tired of these DCS armchair pilots using the native Russian designations that have way too many numbers and letters in them!
at the end of the day though.. whether ukraine shot it down or russia fucked up and shot it down.. either way.. russia lost an expensive piece of equipment
