I picked this up from a friend that was trying to build it up but is moving so he’s thinning his projects. The issue is that one of the pedals has stripped the crank arm on the non driver side. Before I go and try to just purchase a matching crank arm is there any other Cranks that one could recommend. Currently has the Sugino MP110, but I am also interested in changing this to a 1X drive with a 40t chain ring upfront. Any recommendations would be truly appreciated, not trying to use this bike for anything outside of my work commuter as I will also be adding some racks to carry my bag.

Personally, I would check the parts bins at a co-op or LBS and see what vintage Sugino and Shimano cranks are available. Something with a common BCD like 110 that way you have plenty of options for chainrings, especially if you’ll need a narrow-wide for 1x conversion.

I’m doing a crank-swap myself on an older Gary Fisher and was able to score a Deore crankset (FC-MT60 I want to say) with decent looking teeth for 10 bucks locally. And of course, be mindful of any product recalls when shopping vintage.
