Recently picked this pair of vintage bikes up for free! Thinking im going to restore them to working order, then figure out what to do with them at a later date😂. Maybe give them to my parents idk. Ive never worked on a bike this old before, anyone have any suggestions?

These bikes need to be in the Smithsonian. What an iconic pair – this screams 1970!
They probably don’t need anything but air. The hers is missing a seat clamp bolt
Look at the rear hub where the arm attaches to the frame. Does it say Bendix? Get a 19mm cone wrench and some high temp auto grease and repack those. Fairly important to get legit grease in there.Â
26×1/3-8 tires? direct replacement is the only real option. Tan walls though!Â
I then suggest replacing front chainring with a 36t Alta Sweetheart (assuming 18t rear cog; 39t if 19t rear). Slackened gearing is just better. Fitting given the his/hers situation. Â
Service headsets, crank, and front wheel bearing as well. Grease seatpost.Â
