Adrian’s Model 2 with drop handlebars and STI levers. How to get the gears low enough for loaded touring.

Hello there welcome to this video showcasing uh a recent model 2 that Oxford Bike Works have just built um this particular example has come with drop handlebars and STI levers uh twinned with chanelli swamp handlebars nice gravel uh low shallow drop handlebar with a slight flare in it uh

And it leads to quite a comfortable ride uh we also use chell’s chubby bar tape which gives you extra padding for for those long days in the saddle um in terms of using STI levers on touring bikes uh some people are against it other people are in favor of it uh

We’ve decided to embrace it Rec more recently uh we use short throw V brakes uh which seem to give a really good powerful uh St stopping power and uh the real problem for for Road uh group sets is getting the gears low enough to to cope with proper loaded touring in this

Particular case we’ve used a 46 36 26 customade uh chain set um which gives him a lower triple than he would have with a with a standard tagra uh and this means that he should get something around 22 gear inches as his bottom gear um while still having

110 gear inches at the top end um there is no other solution to to getting a decent range um than having a triple uh even now with the wide range uh cassettes in terms of other features of this bike comes with handbuilt wheels the hubs are made by company called

Bitex which seem to be building really really reliable um hubs with replaceable bearings um and a nice uh reasonably noisy um Freewheel ratchet and uh those are coupled with ride Andra 30 rims which are bulletproof and will will last the lifetime of the bike thank you for watching
