Join Robin & Joe from “Life Uncorked” as they finish the Camino de Santiago
the Portuguese Coastal Route. We finish in Santiago de Compostela on Joe’s 70th birthday!
Hey welcome back to life and cork as we continue on our Camino de Santiago the Portuguese coastal route uh today we’re going to do something a little different we’re going to take the train from Vio over to PTO vidra and that bypasses some of the climbing in the mountains a bit
So give our legs a little bit of a rest so come and join us as we continue on our track to Santiago good morning it’s Robin and Joe with life onc good morning we are starting day four of our Camino uh we stayed last night in bigo uh
And we been a crazy morning already it’s been a crazy morning we took a train over the mountains a little bit to uh start in point of rra and to save me from climbing and my my knee’s been hurting a little bit Robin was at champ yesterday no problem
So I didn’t want to go through some of these climbing today so it’s day four for us we’ve done 40 mil a day and that’s a lot for me so we are just hopping over to HRA and then we are going to ride into uh clet and so we’re
Going to take you along with us thank you so much and we’ll show you some beautiful things on the way let’s go and there is our first sign of the day that we are on the right path we are trying to navigate our way
Out of town here Joe has a GPS file that we’re going to follow a little yorky oh so sweet oh wow look at this J to your right a Birds sound evil bird areil the Camino gods are evil no no no just kidding it’s a good
Journey a lot of struggle a lot of beautiful easy times such as life water is my concern well that one spot said there was a hotel and a pharmacy we’re getting a little diversity on this journey today I’m having a hell of a time climbing and Joe’s phone just fell out
And rolled all the way down the bottom of the hill so we’re having a little fun and that’s all good look at this beautiful church we just came home and we will continue I guys are going this way oh wait till you get to Santiago did
You we’re in heaven we just came down this path and found this ice cream truck here this must be heaven we never will get there we got ice cream tread this is the smallest place you I can sit mine says it’s a Scandinavian adventure with mountain cranberries white chocolate and Mountain
Cranberries Joe what did you get let me see drumstick drumstick hold on then you’ll see the thermal Springs over on the right hand side okay Cino it should be right down on the right hand side whever you see the thermal Waters I’ll go up here and get off the street where
At come on up here baby okay it looks like our hotel is going to be right there and that finishes up day four from point to Vedra to cust t a little over 14 miles so shortened day because of the ride over the mountains on the train so
Easy day but we’re going to rejuvenate oursel at the hot springs hotel and head on into Santiago de Castello tomorrow good morning good morning it’s Robin and Joe with life on corked and we made another day we’re starting on day five our last day into Santiago we spent
The night in CIS theice and uh Robin treated me to a uh massage and a mud bath my first mud bath ever so I feel so refreshed we’ll probably get there in an hour so yeah I wish it was lovely we needed it um we have a good day of
Climbing ahead of us so I’m a little nervous about that have to admit we have lots of bangs and bruises and we’re very sore and we’re a little tired but we we do know that we’re not 20 anymore yeah I’m 70 today that’s why it’s my husband’s birthday happy birthday
Darling and we’re going to take you along with this and show you some beautiful sites I do expect it to be a little crowded because it is most people walking go from here to pone pone Santiago but I think it’s just going to be really crowded it’s a it’s a popular

Goodness so much nicer than being way too hot it’s been a bit of a struggle already several climbs but they’re not real Steep and they’re not real long but uh what is the total we’ll do before we should be about 20 6 miles and we’ll probably be okay cuz we have coffee
Money what was the grade uh there was just a 15% a while ago so we walked up that there’s no use riding of it yourself sometimes you got to get off the bike and push yep okay come along home Cino you made it you made it oh my goodness
What you thinking it would I need oxygen I like it it’s beautiful here we go we just stopped and had some lunch in padone padone is padone Spain is the uh home of the padone pepper padone pepper and a lovely couple of cheeseburgers and
Fries I had a German burger and I had a Spanish burger with Bri and fried on and so we are fueled up we’re and ready to head on towards Santiago we’re about 23 km out of Santiago I think so we should be in there in a couple hours let’s go
All right hey before we leave out of padon we just met a lovely gentleman we’re going to introduce you to and we’re going to let him tell you a story Joe and him were talking here and I’m so excited to meet you and see you and so
Tell us your name and a little bit about your journey I’m from Holland from the Netherlands and I’m G from Mand and the occasion for me especially here is on Sunday it’s my birthday and and how old will you be 80 years a little bit more as my neighbor
So here’s my 70 year old birthday boy today0 today and here’s our lovely friend that’s going to be 80 and you’re taking how many days to walk the Camino uh I went from valenza and I took seven days lovely and tomorrow I will arrive in Santiago Friday my daughter and my
Grandson are coming lovely what happened on the Sunday my grandson is becoming eight years eight and the reason I’m here is to celebrate both the birthday but especially for my grandson while he is becoming 8 years while this old man is done eight but I hope I Inspire him
And to do the same thing as I yes what a lovely story is this your first first Camino first Camino very first Cino lovely lovely thank you for sharing that with us we’re so happy to meet you by accident and lovely and you too thanks very much
So the trail goes up and around here and instead of climbing through that and pushing our bikes over those rocks we’re going to go right up the road over here and come right back to the trail in a few minutes it’s a big climb
Too so none of it’s easy but it’s not a big Rocky clim as a matter of fact I am off the bike and pushing because it’s a little bit much for these tired legs right now oh my goodness English isn’t that gorgeous there’s our sign and we go that way
Get you said we’re about 5 miles out oh there’s a breeze oh thank goodness here come some hikers after lots of walking and riding uphill we’re finally going downhill very carefully what’s up with this B I I I’m coming now back up back up again goodness gracious oh goodness okay this is no
Good put itemp when you see this EMP we have two different directions here and Joe is trying to look on his map he we are literally like 5 minutes from the cathedral but I told Joe I need to stop for a piece of cake so we are stopping for a little
Treat and we’re going to sit out here and enjoy it and then we’ll go right up the hill here to the cathedral how close are we 900 M Robin B which way it’s a oneway street so to the left oh my goodness I see bits and pieces of it Cathedral
Santiago oh my goodness look at this oh my goodness oh my goodness say just lay it down yes chion hey it’s Joe and Robin again we made it if you look behind us you will see the Santiago de capella Church Cathedral I guess but uh it’s about 28 miles and
Uh well today we got 28.3 and 28.3 miles on the bikes we are exhausted we’re going to go get our passport book stamped then we’re going to go to the train station make check on our tickets for tomorrow then we’re going to go to the hotel clean up and
