I take my bike on the train and lots of short trips where it’s handy to still have a functional backpack. I also wanted that something was super quick to take on and off the bike.

After a bit of research, I realised I could add pannier hooks to the gear webbing at the front of the bag and not affect the functionality of the bag itself. An unintended benefit of setting it up this way is that all of the straps that could get wrapped up in the rear wheel are now on the opposite side of the bag. I also like that the laptop compartment isn’t leaning up against the rack and copping every bump.

I’m yet to test it out on an actual ride but it seems really solid so far just riding up and down my street (fingers crossed it’s just as good on my actual commute).

I couldn’t find many stories of people successfully converting their backpacks to panniers so I thought I’d share.
