I’m rebuilding my Mirraco frame (previous build was in 2016, including the lovely splatter paint job) and I seem to have forgotten everything I knew back then!
Is there supposed to be a gap between the bottom headset bearing and the bottom fork race? This is as far down as it will go.
Also, how can I remove the bottom race, is it integrated? I’m almost certain I removed it back then because there’s zero signs of overspray or tape lines around this area, but it just seems super stuck on.
Thanks!

cut it off with a grinder make a slit in it the you take a chisel and hammer to crack it and not damage the forks and then it should slide out it got rusty over time and now its stuck
Where did you get the parts, were they assembled or you just gathered stuff around? Anyway some small gap is possible but this seems excessive so I’d think the race shape doesn’t match the bearings. Race doesn’t look like what integrated races normally look like (just check a pic of any modern forks, they don’t have the extra flat part sticking out); if you know the exact type of forks it should be in the specs. These races do tend to get stuck and then a puller or hammer + wood or similar is the way to get it off. Well, or leave it on and find matching bearings but that might be tricky.
