This is my bargain basement roadbike, for the price, it rides surprisingly good, I did a 90km group ride last weekend with 32mm road tires on it and it felt brilliant. I’ve had a fair range of bikes in the past and I can’t fault this little guy. I’m especially amazed at how good Claris is compared to all the Dura-Ace and Ultegra sets I’ve used in the past. The gearing is also fine.

So the manufacturer’s website doesn’t list the max tyre width, but I read in reviews that it’s 32mm. With my 32’s on it there was loads of space, so I was sure I can go bigger, I was looking for 35’s or 38’s but for a set of 40’s practically new on eBay for £12 for the pair.

Throwing caution to the wind I got them go try out. They fit! Just barely, so I think I will drop back down to 35mm but after a little jaunt around a park it feels really nice. I’m looking forward to hitting trails once I get some more appropriate tyres.

  1. Is it not a ‘gravel’ bike, not allowed on roads or tarmac, you must respect the industry sales pitch.

    Nice bike though.
