It’s my first brand new bike purchase since I had my custom Spicer triple triangle made for me in 2015. I’ve purchased and sold dozens in between, but don’t ship new.
My employer rolled out a new program where we can be reimbursed for certain lifestyle items including sports equipment! I’d been eyeing a big block at a LBS as they had them for 30% off @ $700+ taxes. I took the plunge, and was reimbursed within two weeks. I did have to pay taxes on it, but still a bargain.
On to the bike:
The sizing for all city is bizarre at best, and silly at worst. I am in between sizes, and did size down which I believe was the right choice given the steep angles. The TT on the larger size would have been too big and caused me to need too short a stem. I do need to get a longer stem currently, and cut the bars, as well as some saddle aft adjustments but not bad for initial setup.
I did, without riding, upgrade the tires. I don’t do wire beaded. Threw on some Vittoria Corsa Controls in 30mm.
The bike is dope. All the components are at least decent. While heavy (2300+ grams), the wheelset does seem to be very solid. I assume the hubsto be novatec, and they are very nice. Well finished, sealed, and roll well. Brake calipers and levers are tektro and are very good. Easy to adjust, and also well finished. Cockpit is kalloy, and is probably the best value in lightish aluminum components. They are also one of the biggest OEM manufacturers and probably make a lot for companies that we don’t know about. Saddle is fine, but I feel that way about most saddles.
Crank and headset are good. All City 612 crankset, and cane Creek both punch above their weight (and cost).
Bike is well designed, well finished and have very nice touches and details. The paint is well done, with a sparkle/flake that is subtle and hard to capture in pictures. I also appreciate that they use a rust inhibitor coating pre paint. Shadow decals are not too garish, and come across as classy. While trackish in geo, the bike is not nervous or hunting for steering. The room for larger tires rounds out the package.
I do have a couple nitpicks, but the bike is a great package. I’m sad to see them leaving the market as they have been a treasure. Sorry if this is too wordy. Feel free to ask any questions.
