Background: I’m currently riding a bridgestone mb6 modded to be a single speed and with comfort bars that I bought off craigslist, and while it’s very solid, I would like something lighter for speed and ease taking up/down stairs. I’m down to spend 1000-1500 eventually, but thought it’d be worth trying out a cheaper road bike with flat or drop bars to get a sense of what I like first. I would generally use this for 1-10mile rides around Boston and would want to use a rear rack.
Among these options, I feel like the two 1000SL models will likely be lighter weight, but unsure if enough to be worth the price. I think I’d be down to try them to see how drop bars are, but I’m leaning flat bars right now because I would mostly be commuting in the city anyways.
