
My chain tensioner can only be screwed in in this position. Which means that it’s not tight when put around the gears. It should be in the opposite direction when ‘untense’, but the spring inside literally won’t let me put it in any other direction. I have no idea what’s going on, cause all the photos online show the tensioner in the other position.

Your tensioner is pointing in the right direction. You just need to loop the chain through the currently empty pulley as shown at 3:05 in this video: https://youtu.be/0WbQW2O3GKU?t=185
The spring is not correctly install. Follow assembly instruction on page 2.
