Hello Bikewrenchers,
See the pictures of my brake shifters- right and left. I noticed this while changing the bar tape.
They are the original shifter never changed from 2021 when I got the bike.
Given it doesn’t move (never moved) can I continue or shall I change the shifters ?
Did anyone had the same? These are SRAM Force AXS shifters.
Cheers

wtf? That screw has been massively over torqued!!
Look how knackered the head is! It doesn’t need to be much more than finger tight and think the max torque spec is like 5Nm? That looks like it’s had about 20!
Never seen a shifter crack like that, 100% replace it ASAP before that crack propagates any further. You could try welding it back together but I think it might be a bit too far gone.
I’d contact the bike shop you picked this up from.
Do you know their is a recall on these right? Take it to your nearest Sram dealer and let them see it.
Looks cosmetic. If it still functions fine, don’t worry about it.
I would not risk the injury, in fact Sram might just give you a new one.
Yup, just replaced a pair of force axs left and right a few weeks ago for the same issue. Unfortunately out of warranty.
Try the recall thing via your LBS.
I would NOT run this shifter. It held up so far, but a shifter moving already sucks, and leaving the bar entirely? No thanks! I rather spend money on bike brake parts than face brake parts.
That’s about to snap lad
If it functions it’s fine for now
How is this even a question. This is where your hands rest to control the bike.
Of course it’s toast. Don’t push your luck.
Also, no “is is it safe questions” are allowed.
