This rivet nut for a bottle cage is spinning in my frame. It’s an old merlin ti bike frame. Any suggestions how to get it out? LBS says I shouldn’t rip it out if i were to find a way as it could damage the frame. Says I should try to take off the exposed rim so the rest of the nut can fall in the frame and then replace it then. Obviously I cannot put a bottle cage on and I would like to. Thanks in advance to any advice.

I had this happen to my CAAD9. I added a pump mount that goes under the bottle cage, once I got a little tension in the mount I was able to crank it down nicely.
Pair of pliers on the outer, drill it out and pull.
You can buy a rivnut gun parts for ~30 bucks on amazon.
I had this happen on an old aluminum frame. I drilled it out, bought a cheap rivnut set, and replaced it.
