Yo
Up until recently I used to run a front brake on my Mavic Ellipse front wheel and obviously the black coating on the braking surface started wearing away, leaving me with a full black wheel at the back and a half silver wheel up front.

I was thinking about applying some kind of black nail polish to the rim surface as I got used to riding brakeless and am not planning to reinstall a front brake anytime soon.
What do you guys think? Should I leave the rim as it is? Do any of you have prior experience in touching up rim surfaces?

Thanks in advance.

  1. Remove your tire, tape up the bead seat and spokes, tape the frame, gently give the wheel a spin and spray paint several thin, even coats until you’re satisfied with the finish.

Or just leave it alone, it looks cool like that

  2. I used to be in the exact same situation, with Ellipses I used a front brake on before going brakeless

Black electrical tape worked out fine for me; clean the brake tracks, take your time applying the tape, trim off the excess, and it’s ready to go
