Hello Community,

after I took my chain off yesterday for cleaning and washed the whole Brompton, after drying it overnight I had to reassemble the chain. I applied a drop of “Rohloff chain lubricant” to each chain link.
Then I turned the freewheel several times by hand so that the oil can penetrate well. Now I want to leave it overnight and remove the excess oil with a cloth.
However, something is still squeaking. I assume that it is coming from one of the two rollers with the red arrow. Is chain oil the right thing to use or would it be better to use silicone spray? I also have “WD40 silicone spray”.

What about the front derailleur (green arrow) and the small chain for the hub gears (blue arrow)?

Thank you very much for your help

  1. Hi, it looks like there is a lot of road grime/ dried oil in the jockey wheels (red arrows) and falling into the chain. I’d at least scrape that off first. Although not technically ideal, your chain lube would also work for your derailleur and hub gear chain.

Having said that, listen carefully around your bottom bracket. They are not very good quality, don’t last long and can get noisy. But good news is they are cheap. Pedals can squeak as well. Hope you manage to sort it out 👍
