Recently got these two 1980s bikes, blue one is Miyata and the white one is a Spokesman (Australian brand from back in the days). Both bikes have 27×1 1/4 rims and from searching online some people seem to be converting 1980s road bikes to gravel bikes by using 700 rims and swapping out the old brakes with longer reach brakes. What are my chances at such a conversion? Does transitioning to modern 700 wheels also mean drivetrain is being changed? Or is it possible to just swap out the wheel and brakes only? At this point I am realizing I could have bought a modern hybrid bike but I do like the vintage looks especially chrome forks. Btw are these 1980s seat posts no longer compatible with modern saddles? What have I gotten myself into haha. I would really appreciate any comments.
