I just took my rear wheel off and had a hard time reinserting the thru axle. At first the axle threaded into the aluminum dropout because I couldn’t insert it fully. I luckily noticed that quickly so there was just some little scraped off aluminum. I checked the hanger and tried to reposition it (loosened and tightened screw with installed axle). Problem seems to be that the derailleur is pulling at the hanger when the wheel is installed and it’s simply impossible to position it so that the axle can be inserted smoothly. It goes in easily when I sightly push on the derailleur so everything gets aligned. I’m afraid this is just shitty by design because the frame gives too much room for the derailleur mount to keep it in a fixed position. But maybe someone has an idea what else I can try?

  1. This is a Focus Atlas, right? Mine’s the same and yeah, it’s kind of a bitch. Bad design is what it is. I don’t really have much advice for you other than try to get everything lined up before fully tightening the screw that holds the axle nut and the hanger onto the frame.
