Forest City Velodrome – https://www.forestcityvelodrome.ca/
This is my story of returning to the velodrome that started it all. After a crash in 2015 that left me hospitalized I have not returned to this facility since then.

Over the course of your life you will come across people and places that completely change the direction of your life for me this is one of those places that played such a crucial role in developing me into the person I am today you see from a young age I knew I
Wanted to represent Canada at the Olympic Games I just never knew what sport that would be until I discovered this place right here this is the for city belladrum where by more Saturdays growing up than I know how to count and the place that taught me how to ride a bike in circles
And only turn Left it’s been so long since I’ve been back here to this track I haven’t ridden the track here since I crashed in 2015 hit the railing came off my bike and woke up in the hospital the next morning I’ve always immediately to come back but I just haven’t really found the
Time but we’re here now I’m excited to be back on the track and see if I remember how to write it to go wus has to take the long way around down the backstretch wus and NB W and NB to the line NB careful Careful It’s crazy how much this place still feels and smells the [Applause] Same not going to lie I am a little bit nervous I haven’t ridden here in quite a few years this is the shortest and steepest indoor Val drum in the world in the last five or 6 years I’ve probably ridden 20 or 25 Bell drums around the world but this is probably
One of the most difficult to ride it’s very Steep and it’s very tight but this is where I learned what a track bike is so I’m hoping I remember and and kind of adapt pretty quick so you definitely cannot ride big gears on this track last time I tried
That it didn’t end very well so I’m on warm-up gear today that I use for daily training 5920 should feel pretty big on this track just like old times we’re going to do a couple Laps on the roll around and then we’re going to get on the track might keep the straps
Loose the lines are still here for the roll around so I’m just going to do a couple laps here and then we’re going to get on the Track if if you’re a part of the Canadian cycling scene you may have heard the news that earlier this year the fcv announced was closing the stores for good this took me by surprise it hit me even harder knowing that I have not been back on the boards that gave me
Everything since my crash in 2015 but thanks to an amazing group of volunteers that have come together they’ve been able to reopen the fcv to continue to provide a place for young kids just like me to chase their dreams when I heard of the reopening I knew I needed to make it
Happen and get back here to ride no more excuses [Applause] Just like riding a Bike okay not as bad as I thought a little bit intimidating but it feels good to be back probably a little faster than I needed to but uh probably just a bit of the nerves being back on the track you forget how tight it is in the corners
And how much the corners really suck you in the corners kind of drop away a little bit here and it’s kind of different than any other track I’ve ridden but um yeah that was fun good to be Back if the little bit of success I’ve achieved in my career has taught me anything it’s to hold on to the people in places close to you this is where my story began and I’m so thankful I took that chance by hopping on the yellow KHS fixie and giving this track a
Shot these boards and these walls are full of stories and my hope is this place can be around for years to come to create more stories just like mine this place brings back a whole lot of memories and I’m so glad I got the chance to be back on the track
Today I think I’ll be back a little more often growing up my mom always told me no matter where life takes you never forget your roots and this is a place I will never forget He

Thank you to everyone for the support on this film! I had so much fun putting this one together. This velodrome is incredibly special to me and I'm so thankful I was able to share that story with all of you!
Such high quality video 👍
I'd like to slip in there and do some wing ding'n on my Wasawski.
Standardization of track cycling equipment would do a lot for accessibility in the sport, eh? Probably a skosh more than one particular velodrome staying open, but the videos about the sentimentality. Intro to the sports a bit secondary.
hey nick i was wondering on how do you have a strap on cleats
Great video. If you ever make it to the states try out the Lexus Velodrome in Detroit Michigan!
the production qulaity on this was abolutly outstanding
Why do the cycling tracks vary? Why don’t they make them standard turn angles, etc for the sport like athletics tracks?
138 meters and 50 degree banking according to google. I rode pan am 67.
Velodrome with 33 degree banking. And 400 meters.. we thought that was steep. It was concrete and not at all fast..i rode it 1973 -1977
I remember stopping in there off the 401 to have a look a couple of times (the first shortly after it opened), but living in Toronto, Milton is closer (not sure if I still hold the F45-49 Canadian hour record), but I keep saying I'm going to give FCV a whirl – really happy to hear it's not closing. Thanks for the video and good luck!
why do you wear sunglasses inside lmao
Huge respect! I admit, when you talked of nervousness, I thought it's just like riding a bike, right? 🤭😉
Leaving that gate open is pretty dangerous. They scream about that around here.
Nice pickleball courts in the middle of the bike track. 🤘🏽
hated every minute of this video, tied your shoe laces for 17 days who cares
The track is quite small – just 138m long. If I estimate the radius of the curves by r=12m the speed v=15m/s the slope is estimated by arctan(v*v/r/g)~62°. It may be more than 51°. So, what's the radius of the curve?
… g=9.81m/s/s
And i thought that Burnaby Velodrome was steep ?!?!? Great job on this video !
That’s really cool video! Thanks so much!
What motivates you to ride in a velodrome? Bad weather? Consistency? How do you compare it to Zwift/or any indoor cycling setting?
the production quality, holy moly. great video!
I love to see it man
I miss my old steel KHS flite 100 🙂 hearing you bring up yours brought back some PBR-saturated memories
Hey man, this is crazy. As a mountain biker I have to say that if this is where you learnt to ride in your bike sport then I think it might be harder then a lot of mountain biking.
Single speed fixie racer bike is the best! Pitted with other geared multi sprocket bikes In many criterium street races in my area, I seen a good number of race winners. 1st placers take fixie bikes to the finish line. Sometimes even finishing in a strong breakaway ahead of the main peloton!
in ukraine Lviv area we have velodrome 49-51degree
Really well done video! Nice work
I’ll be like you some day
I do not really no much but my dad would because he’s a Olympic cyclistwhith to gold medals 🥇 (first place ones)😂

Love the one
Mommy
canada is gay
Love seeing what can be pulled off in such a tight spot! This setup is still perfect for getting folks into track cycling. Over in Norway, we've gone from zero to two velodromes in the last couple of years. But, you know, some folks aren't thrilled that one is 'only' 200m. Who knows, maybe if they were cool with a 166m track, we could have three or four velodromes here
Try to ride Lviv track thats realy spicial and great
Awesome! Beautifully made, too.
As someone who rides a BMX to school commonly, standing up, I could never ride a bike like that 💀 sure I could ride, one hand, standing, and pedaling, but with a seat higher than my bars? Never in a million years, my back would die 💀💀💀 pedal on bro
It is like wall😮
I hope you don't drive a car…
Seems odd the straight sections are also slopped. Looking at the tires as they make contact with the track, they're at an angle other than 90 degrees. The edge of the tire rather, than the center, is the part making contact.
I understand steep banking for race car tracks, but I don’t really think it’s that necessary for much slower bicycles…😂
never rode on a track, ridden lots of track bikes though. i even still get out on my Eimei every so often but my old man knees sure let me know about it for hours and days after….
but 59/20 being your "training gear" made my laugh. olympian i am not haha.
Is it much shorter and steeper than the Burnaby Velodrome?
This is a track I never knew about. The nearest to me when I was growing up racing was Trexlertown. My coach wanted my brother and me to race track but we already did so many other things. It was a cool thing though. This track is really tiny! Much much steeper than Ttown.
Back in the early part of the century (2oth), there were tracks or "rinks" everywhere! Back when Major Taylor was the great champion.
Beautiful. I grew up on velodrome. Raced from around age 10 to my mid twenties. Miss it
