Hi, I have this old Shimano STX RC 8sp hub. I have tried restoring it but noticed some significant wear on the bearings and body so replacing it will be necessary.
But now im unsure what to do exactly. To give some context im a uni student and recently bought a used bike. I have done a overhaul of the bike but this hub is the last thing i need to fix.
What hub do I need to get? Should I try rebuilding the wheel myself or let a shop do it?
What are my options?

This would be a good replacement. However, if you don’t have the tools or experience needed to build a wheel, it will be much easier just to replace the whole wheel.
Those rims are pretty cool though, if they aren’t worn might be worth saving.
Personally, I’d go to some pretty decent lengths to keep that hub with the bike. What do you mean about body wear? And, what parts of the bearings are worn? Can you post pics of the damage?
To me, the only reason to replace the hub is the damaged non-drive side bearing cup inside the aluminum wheel hub.

Replace 7,9 and if the bearing cup inside the freehub body is damaged then 16, bearing balls and worn seals if any.
