Man about 10 days out I also considered doing the Old Man Winter rally for my first ever race and now I’m glad I didn’t!

Had a friend ride this race with a similar result. I love riding, but not enough to justify the costs and time. Plus, the ride looked like type 3 fun.

Guy in front of me at Full Cycle, fellow OMW casualty, got quoted $1100 because his higher-end groupset was fully shot.
This whole experience has made me hyperaware of how important it’s going to be to learn how to do bike maintenance myself. It’s my only bike right now so I wanted to pay the shop this time to make sure I didn’t do anything wrong in the repair, but hopefully next time I can learn in a situation less dire.

Even doing most of the labor myself I’m looking at a couple hundred from doing the abbreviated 100k race. Very not worth it, imho.
