Loosen cable tension from derailleur and put it back into the barrel before ading tension and tightening the derailleur. Make sure you make the correct adjustments.

no need to mess with barrels.
1. shift to highest speed (perhaps you’ll have to pull the cable downwards by the hand to achieve this)
2. pull the “jagwire” housing piece upwards and slide it back to the cable stop on the downtube. there should be a slot where the cable can pass
3. let the housing go
