I’ve ridden with Advent-X for a year+ and I am done. The shifting is great, the gear range is excellent, the gear spacing is ok for me, but the levers are intolerable.

The sideways exit of the shift cable is where my right thumb wants to be when on the hoods. This occasionally puts lateral pressure on my thumb and stresses the knuckle joint. As much as I try to be aware and adjust my hand, a long ride ends with a sore thumb which may still be sore the next day.

I searched about a bit for reports of similar experiences. I didn’t find anything; am I the only one with a goofy thumb issue?

I’ve decided to try the Microshift Sword levers which are new this winter, and look more ergonomic. They’re on order, along with a zipp xplr bar with a shallower drop. I think I may use the drops more if they weren’t as flared and deep.

I could have waited to discuss what’s better with the sword levers after I have them and setup. But, right now my thumb is sore and I have to publicly say farewell to advent-X drop levers.
