Hi everyone,

I’m extremely new to riding and looking to purchase something that won’t break the bank (ideally in the $500-1k range). I plan on training (not super intensely) for a 20km bike ride for a triathlon but I don’t see myself using the bike for much more than that. This would be my first triathlon, may possibly do it yearly since it’s a fundraiser for a children’s hospital, but at the moment I’m only planning for training 1-2x a week for a few months, race, and then use it sparingly after that. Mostly planning on road riding plus the occasional (flat) gravel trails, so figured a hybrid/fitness bike would be best.

I’m about 5’3, so recommended size is a S, and the X 3.0 is on sale for $700 at the moment. Planning on checking it out at my local shop sometime this week but would love to go with a few other ideas in mind.

I’ve read a few articles about frame materials, brake types, etc but I feel pretty out of my depth. I just want something reliable and a lot of the articles I’ve seen seem to be geared towards those with thousands to spend or those who are already really into the sport, and I don’t know where to start.

Thanks in advance!
