In the early 1980s frame builder and bicycle engineer Keith Bontrager helped advance mountain bike technology by cutting down road bike rims from 700c to 26 inch, which made for less weight and better performance. #bontrager #vintagebike

At the time Keith bont troger the engineer now behind every bont troger bicycle product was building frames here in Santa Cruz and he had just come out with his cut down rims ingeniously he cut and removed a section from narrow mavic 700c rims to turn them into 26-in

Narrow rims it was revolutionary because the narrower rims were much lighter they improved braking a lot plus they made mountain bike tires rounder for more flotation and grip

  1. We were just talking about this! Keep up with the old school bikes and cycling history!
'Uncle Al' Budris of Cupertino and Cyclecraft had one of these amazing 'cross frames. So cool, built by one of the icons of MTB.
