Hi all,
I have a steel bike that I’m building up for a few trips.
I’m wanting to mount a sturdy front rack that could hold 2 med size pannier bags.
I’ve seen some mounting points that you can tie onto the fork but I’m not sure how much weight or how long it could hold up for?
Is there a budget rack that can mount to the eyelets near the dropout and middle section of the fork that could hold a bit of weight?
Would it be worth getting frame builder to add some in?
Any help would be appreciated.

Frame builder, or try old man mountain racks
It would be a lot easier to add a rack for panniers at the back.

If you’re gonna get yourself ready for a trip you’re gonna have to get really comfortable with the search function to do some research.
You have rack mounts on your dropouts, unless I’m misunderstanding your question. Something like the [Pelago Commuter Rack ](https://www.modernbike.com/product-2126321597?gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAiAiP2tBhBXEiwACslfnjGHxp1IoKLW2N3s3Ld_0GbtNUv6dbmXPV767Q4nDqnNIIYB4u_TTRoC9-QQAvD_BwE) would work fine. I wouldn’t put bricks in it, but it’ll be just fine for light to medium duty.
It would probably be cheaper to buy a different fork than hire a frame builder.

Versa cages come with strap-on fork bosses to allow any ‘clean’ fork to be used for bike-packing. I’ve had them on my bike for the last 3 years, they work well.
