Ah yes, the GravelFlings.
I read all the reviews and took it with a pinch of salt. I assumed people meant that over time you’d perhaps notice more chips in your downtube, or they were a little annoying for riders following you sometimes, but nothing ridiculous.
So I bought them, and on the first ride cruising along some light gravel all I can hear is “ting”… “ting”… “ting, ting, ting”.
I’d never heard anything like that on my previous tires, but they were just constantly picking crap up and throwing it at my bike.
All that said I liked them though. Plenty grippy on gravel and not too draggy on tarmac unlike my previous tires that felt like they just sucked the fun out of riding on roads.
I’ve since removed them because the tightly spaced knobs just don’t work for the kind of UK gravel (mud) that I’ve ended up riding, but otherwise I would have left them on!
Mine definitely threw gravel when brand new, but that stopped very quickly.
Planning to buy GVK SK’s too in 700x43mm! Can I ask if they are usable in mud? Obviously I don’t expect them to be top performers because that’s what tires like the Maxxis Ravagers are for. But if I may ask, are the GVK SK’s adequate in mud?
They do fling gravel, but only the first 10-20 miles or so in my experience. Then the mold release is worn off, or the knobs are worn down just enough, something happens so they stop doing it. I just put a new set of Maxxis Ramblers on and they’re doing the exact same thing, but I’m guessing that’ll stop soon.
