Background: got an older Miyata 1000 from Facebook, had it fully sandblasted and powder coated. Rode it for just under two years before the seat tube snapped right above the BB. I used rust protector in the tubing, but that apparently wasn’t enough.
This break comes just after a period of snow-melt and salted roads where I live. Perhaps that is related, but I don’t know how to go about diagnosing a chromoly frame break.
This is actually my third steel Miyata frame snapped, so I think I’m gonna go with a new frame and just swap over the parts.

My theory: You used rust protector, but the previous owner didn’t. Also they didn’t grease the seatpost enough, so water got into the seattube and rotted it from the inside. You had a weakened tube (invisible to the outside) and proceeded to ride it hard – so it broke.
