Context: Was getting ready for a ride tomorrow when I noticed damage on the right side of my fork. Took it to my LBS and the mechanic said it’s still only aesthetic and hasn’t hit the carbon yet, they said they’d get into contact with my local Spez (they’re closed on weekends here) too and get their opinion.
Most likely got it from a crash I had a couple weeks ago but no one seemed to notice the chip in the cleaning and maintenance I’ve had done since.
I’ve ridden it and went hard before I noticed the damage but would love more opinions though, is it actually safe to ride still?

I’d ride it. The main load is above the axle.
What wheel is that ? 28 spokes with radial on the DS and 2x crossed on the disk side ?
Axle dropout areas are usually solid (not hollow carbon/resin. I’d say unless layers of carbon are flaking off and are obviously soft, I’d say it’s only cosmetic. Try to pull/push the rim sideways against the fork crown to give both sides of thru axle a good load and observe, whether the dropout is soft.

Not a worry. Think about how QR forks work, there’s no material at the bottom to get the wheel in and out. For thru axle it just serves to encase the axle nut. It will be bonded in well and all the weight is on the top of it
