I sold a 2022 Specialized Crux Comp to someone on eBay. I had maybe used it 20 times and it was practically new. I had the bike professionally boxed and shipped to him. Today I received images from him saying the bike was damaged in shipping. He said,
“Main problem is the seat tube is now broken and it’s part of the frame and can’t just be replaced. The seat collar and post are also damaged.”
He sent the following photos. I’d love some opinions if the seat tube actually looks broken to others. The insurance claims adjuster says this can be fixed for $100. But the buyer thinks the bike is totaled.

Your best bet is to take this to a specialist carbon repair shop and see what they say.

This looks like someone over tightened the seat post clamp. Not like a packaging issue.

In pic 2, are those segments from the seatpost clamp’s lip?

It is clearly broken. I’d hazard a guess that the seat clamp was tightened without a seatpost in place and it has split the top of the seat tube.
Repairable – for sure.
How is this your problem off the back of an EBay sale?

If that got damaged during shipping, the top of the shipping box should have some very significant damage….a huge, gaping hole. Did the buyer send you any pictures of the box?

What’s interesting is the rear derailleur was also damaged. But you can see that clearly from the photos of the box (below). So I definitely believe him.
But I don’t see how the seat post would have been damaged as the box shows no marks on it. Also, he didn’t mention the seat post being damaged until 12 hours after he pointed out the rear derailleur was damaged. The theory that he overtightened it is a very interesting one! But maybe I’m wrong?
