Hi Folks,

Im struggling between a Ebike with a [belt](https://www.canyon.com/de-de/e-bikes/trekking-e-bikes/pathlite-on/pathlite-on-8-suv/3008.html?dwvar_3008_pv_rahmenfarbe=WH) and one with a normal [chain](https://www.lucky-bike.de/Fahrraeder/E-Bike/E-Trekkingbike/Cube-Kathmandu-Hybrid-PRO-750-2023.html).

I will ride this bike daily for around 25-50km minimum in all weather conditions.

I’m used to chain bikes but I hate the fact that you need to maintain them frequently (I’m lazy). I heard that a bike with a bike is not as „sportive“ than a normal bike. Is that true ? I want to be agile which means when I hit the pedal the bike should immediately react no matter where I am f.e. Driving in the forest or going uphill.

I only drove my fathers Riese & Müller Ebike with a belt (he is 68)… of course this bike was not sportive at all.

My general question is:
Will I be happy with the belt bike ? I’m 36 and want to drive as much as I can cuz I hate public transportation ( living in Berlin)

Thanks

  1. Non related question: Are you planning on using the bike for shopping aswell?
Iam not familiar with the bike infrastructure in berlin but have you considered a cargo bike instead? Maybe it ticks more than one box, but obviously is not “sportive”.

as an ambitious roadie i can only share my experience: heavy bikes tend to feel slowish and like a truck and since the battery packs and motors are still very heavy i assume you will need to look for a bike with a sportive geometry in headset angle and wheelbase
