    Because the world is wet and messy. If you’re unsplattered then the fenders did their job. The only way to prevent this is not riding near wet surfaces.

    How close to the ground is the front flap? I suspect it is not as long as you think it is.

  3. It takes a long-ass front fender to protect you and the bottom bracket. I fabricated [this front mudflap](https://i.imgur.com/Df0BNPv.jpg) from light-weight and flexible “kydex” plastic that I bought on line. It extends to within 10 cm / 4″ from the ground to catch the spray from the tire. It keeps the bike and I clean and dry on wet rides.
