A short bike packing trip through Belgium and the Netherlands.
After being invited to speak at the Eurovelo conference I planned a short bikepacking trip. Starting in Dusseldorf I cycled into the Netherlands and on to Hasselt, Belgium for the talk. I then cycled 200km north to Amsterdam for my flight home.

Good morning just arrived in Germany near the Dutch border and I’m heading to Belgium to do a talk at the euro Valley Conference well I’m packing so I thought I better right there so I’m on my way three countries in three days So far I’ve not touched a road that ain’t bike paths properly in Europe it’s not exactly hitting there though very flat and it’s been see quite windy I think about headwind day but it’s him that’s fine in their rush welcome to Holland the first time I’ve actually cycle here oh

Nice say miss Germany’s be honest [Applause] okay now Belgium let me go you touch the road in Holland purely psychopaths are pretty cool About 20 miles away from house are now just riding on this lovely star path just so nice I’ve not seen any traffic bury the whole hot ride so far 50 miles and I’ve done about 2 miles on roads I mean this is the way it should be so relaxing

I mean one my only gripe is that it’s so many cyclists start to have to take sometimes so it’s a nice first of all problems have Okay that’s out made it most will measure the town here I guess this canal just goes into town no bloody windy he’s doing windy what a blockhead wind so yesterday I spoke at the uruvela conference in hasselt belgium which is really great it really interesting to see kind of the recycled

Tourism industry from the other side and hopefully I gave a good account of of bike packing in cycling to those who kind of have the power to influence cycling infrastructure now I’m riding to Amsterdam I’m flying home tomorrow but yeah I got to get there first so 110

Miles I’m in Belgium the Sun is no longer shining is slightly drizzly and there’s a headwind a classic Belgium it’s did on the same soccer part still no traffic back in the Netherlands the psychopath continues [Applause] ten miles away from Amsterdam now still a headwind 100 miles down hopefully about 45 minutes left nice house oh so beautiful south of understand about 15k out lovely canals really nice here we go outskirts of Amsterdam stay in hostel about QK way and then in the

Morning I’m gonna head into the center how a little look around and explore good morning I’m in Amsterdam now very much the urban cyclists today I’m just going to have a cruise into Amsterdam have a little look around see some of the sights quickly and then fly out from the airport this afternoon We’re just heading out of the center of Amsterdam now macaw flight home this afternoon so I’m heading to Schiphol Airport find a bike box get the bike box top and then head home gotta race across tomorrow the airport over there let’s psychopathy all the way up to the engines pretty

  1. Don’t pay for a bike box ! Get a free spare one from a bike shop ! Did this in Split just tied the box to the bike and cycled a short way to the airport early enough to avoid traffic

  2. How cool is that you can buy a bike box at Schipol airport. Is that something that is catching on or is it just the uber bike friendly dutch? I get quite stressed at the prospect of having to find a bike shop willing to give me a box that's not miles away from the airport!… I've folded one up, taped it across my back and ridden with it to the airport before and its not much fun, in traffic or wind! 🙂

  3. Love the videos! I ride distance also. I am always unsupported. What would you have done in Amsterdam if the wasn’t a box for you? Just curious. I probably would have turned around and road back to where I started. Lol please never stop! I’m currently waiting on the gnc book!
