Today I picked up a [Louis Garneau Gros Louis 2 27.5″](https://www.bicyclesmcw.com/us/louis-garneau-gros-louis-2-275.html).
I was hoping to put full fenders on it but it seems like finding full fenders for fat bikes is trickier than I had expected. I was hoping to find something like the [Planet Bike Full Fenders](https://www.amazon.ca/Planet-Bike-Full-Deluxe-Fender/dp/B00PAFELMI/ref=asc_df_B00PAFELMI/?tag=googleshopc0c-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=459833471749&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=11490332905066926249&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9000471&hvtargid=pla-570016959041&psc=1&mcid=985dba9ea94936fda0095d49d6b9ad2f) but sized for fat bikes.
I am running 4.5″ Cake-Eater tires, so probably need something **at least 115mm wide**.
I have heard of people making fenders like this:
> You can make your own fat bike fenders by slicing a set of off-the-shelf fenders in half (Planet Bike Cascadia are popular), widening them with a 3.00″ strip of aluminium and attaching it all back together with rivets. There are a few good tutorials floating around online to complete this hack. The other popular DIY option is to source some ‘trials motorbike’ fenders and match them to some bicycle fender hardware.

*Maybe*, I will give that a shot, but if there are other easier methods to try first, that would be preferable.
I will be commuting with my bike. Half the commute will be on packed snow on a mostly-unmaintained trail. The other half will be on messy Montreal streets. Decent fenders are probably a must.

Best options so far:
* Planet Bike – **Using both of the front fenders seem like a good setup**. The rear fender looks weak.
* [Big Buck Front Fender](https://www.planetbike.com/big-buck-front-bike-fender/) – $35USD
* [Big Buck Downtube Fender](https://www.planetbike.com/big-buck-board-downtube-bike-fender/) – $20USD
* [Big Buck Rear Render](https://www.planetbike.com/big-buck-rear-bike-fender/) – $35USD – Only provides partial coverage (your back but not your legs).
* Mudhugger
* [Front FatHugger – 130mm](https://themudhugger.co.uk/collections/front-mudhugger-mountain-bike-mudguards/products/fathugger?variant=39979066886) – [$119CAD](https://fatbikes.ca/product/mudhugger-fathugger-mk3-front-fatbike-fender-canada/) – Looks ok but not substantially better than the planet bike option above.
* [Rear Mudhugger – Medium](https://www.themudhugger.co.uk/collections/rear-mudhugger-mountain-bike-mudguards/products/mk2-rear-mudhugger-medium-new-for-2022?variant=43539850035374) + [Fat Hugger Rear Extender](https://www.themudhugger.co.uk/collections/rear-mudhugger-mountain-bike-mudguards/products/fat-hugger-rear-extender?variant=36086353926) – **This looks like the best rear option so far** – [$80CAD](https://www.ridleys.com/product/mudhugger-mk2-medium-rear-fender-for-29-27.5-bikes-503691-1.htm?variations=4018054%3Futm_source%3Dgoogle+shopping&utm_medium=organic&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQiA2eKtBhDcARIsAEGTG42KNJQfKYTK6y1teS0TA4v-UoyhrtcxB30pU7dE-EYarSeBmW3LOmgaAs8HEALw_wcB)

Me too friend. Haven’t had any luck finding fenders for 26×4.8. Bummed.
You could try the Mucky Nutz Fat Gut Fender, got it on Amazon for 20ish bucks and it does a decent job. Not quite a full fender and I use it to keep the mud away on trails but it might work for you.
