My partner and I are taking next year off to tourer around Europe.
Bike build is as follows
Frame: Surly Ghost Grappler (Partner’s is an Karate Monkey)
Drivetrain: 11spd Shimano XT linkglide
Crankset: FSA Comet with 30T Wolftooth chainring
Brakes: Shimano Deore hydraulic
Wheels: WTB I40 set up tubeless
Tyres: 27.5 x 2.5 Teravail Ehline
Saddle: Brooks B17
Handle bar: Ritchey Kyote

Trying to brainstorm ideas on how to carry what we will need for a year. We plan on sleeping in our tent as much as we can and taking the beaten off-road path whenever we can.

The touring set ups I see are very large pannier with a duffel bag like thing across and the regular ‘bikepacking’ setup seems like not enough volume to carry gear we need for a year.

How would you pack?

Two panniers up front, two in the back. Seat pack, top tube packs, handlebar roll and bag. Then you have the forks to add more gear. If that’s not enough you can haul a trailer like the ones kids ride in.
