Hey, I bought a Trek Marlin 5 Gen 3 2024 last week and I am somewhat new to biking. So my question is does this much oil on a brand new fork that was taken for a first ride (20 km) usual or is it an indication of failure and should be fixed?

There is not any oil in those forks, just a light grease around the seals. This is normal. Take a soft microfiber cloth and clean the stanchions off using a side to side motion. Do not go up and down as the object is to remove the debris away from the seals and not push it into them.
