Purchased a bike. Turns out I’m actually in worse shape than I thought. I knew it was bad but wow. Even a super short ride and I’m crazy winded and sore. Any advice yall can offer? I’m 40. 6’1 about 300lbs. One of my friends went with me yesterday and we did just like 2.5 miles. Today I did 1 mile and felt like death. Ha. I really want to stick with this so any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks for coming to my question session….

When I started trying to ride again same thing happened to me. WINDED after 5 minutes. The only advice I can give is that the more you do it the easier it will get.
The thing with exercise is, it sucks. It hurts. You’re also old and (I say this having been within an inch and 7lbs of you a year ago) out of shape. You just gotta go.
Realize some days are gonna suck more than others. Be sure to stretch. Eat a banana. Hydrate. Do what you can every day, just do it. If you can’t get on the bike for whatever reason, work on mobility. You’re middle aged- shit don’t work like it used to. Do some walking. Yoga. Maybe light weights. Eventually you start gaining back movement and range of motion and it sucks a little less and feels more awesome and you go more.
I’m 26, in pretty good shape, and just got back into BMX a year ago after 4 year hiatus. I was SO exhausted my first few sessions. Be patient. Also, this isn’t really bmx content.
Keep riding homie! It’ll get easier. Feel lucky you’re just winded, the last two times I got back into riding after months-long hiatuses I pulled my lower back 😂
