TODAY’S SUBJECT is some excellent examples of handwriting from a guest book at Astley Castle, Nuneaton.

I am retired from two careers of primary school teaching when I was deputy head of a Middle School and Primary School, and as a self employed Chalkboard Artist from 2002 until I reached the grand old age of 65 in 2016. Since I retired it’s like a second childhood but with more expensive toys.

I play guitar and write songs and have written about 14 songs for the local BBC radio station. I run a weekly (weakly) evening Acoustic session at a local pub and have been doing so for 14 years now. I also started an afternoon acoustic session in a quite large cafe in Nuneaton. Both premises were former songwriting clients of mine.

Much of the music I use on this channel is taken from epidemicsound.com free to use on Youtube for a reasonable monthly fee, and sometimes I suffer you with my own music.

Gear that I use:
DJI Mavic Mini 3 Drone.
Iphone 13Pro for camera, generally front facing so I can see myself in frame. Super quality especially if I keep the lens clean.
Go Pro11
Gimble is a Q2 Smooth by Zhiyun, I ought to use this more often because it was expensive.

Rhode videomic to do voice over on computer
Video editing with Final Cut Pro X
Polarduck Mini Tripod for mobile phone. This is so good and under £10.00 I bought two.
Lamcou bendy leg tripod
Tall Tripod is a Velbon CX 540
Mono pod is a Manfrotto Compact MMC3-02 and is very useful for getting high angles that look like low flight drone shots and so easy to carry on my bike along with the mini tripod.

Well hello John Neil here it’s Friday the 12th of January 2024 and today we’re talking handwriting and I’m going to show you some terrific Examples yesterday I did a video about Ashley castle and seawood pool but at Ashley Castle I do recall we I was there about uh seven years ago in 2017 doing a little music event and while I was there I had a look in the castle which is um

Accommodation for a holiday let and there was a a visitor’s book which I always like to look at and there’s some beautiful handwriting examples there you might well know that I am keen on handwriting because in a previous life I was a signwriter and started a YouTube

Channel in fact on that subject about 12 years ago and that eventually accumulated uh 18,000 followers but one of the videos I did after I done a lot of signwriting videos was to do with handwriting particularly handwriting for adults which seemed to be a little niche in the market wasn’t particularly well

Covered for children maybe but not for adults and the craft of handwriting I think is um it’s been lost and when people see good handwriting think wow that’s terrific I wish I could do it so that video in fact led me to being contacted by a publisher in America and

I wrote a book for them which was basically handwriting for adults um and in it I took an example from a book I read long time ago which had a lot of examples in of other people’s handwriting so that’s the drift of what I’m on to today it hasn’t been possible to train

All the people who’ve written in these entries and I for the most part haven’t revealed their name so if any are traceable thank you very much for letting me use them I’m not making any money from this so there not really a matter of any copyright I’d like to think that they

Were pleased that I was so admiring of their handwriting that I would uh want to put it in this video as you can see some of the guests were in fact very good artists and so it’s not surprising that their handwriting was extremely good too I’ll make a couple of passing

Comments as these handwriting examples come on screen but for the most part I’ll just leave them here for you to enjoy in fact if you want to pause the video and look closer then that’ be a great idea I love the Rhythm to this one in particular look at that fantastic There’s a freshness and originality of this style the letter e for instance and those downstrokes like on agreed the G Going Down wonderful and we have it the stroke just doesn’t quite leave the paper which looks lovely yeah like that one Here are four examples all in one page and the one in the middle of the quite tiny handwriting really is very very precisely done this Arrow leading to the word and was so nice I had a close look at it and it’s such a consistent and even hand and

Every line is really quite straight too very Nice Do you want to see some flourishing descenders look at these the word friends there looks hardly got anything on the top top it’s all a a descending flourish at the bottom excellent now that is what I call an entry into a guest book must have taken quite a while to do

Fantastic two wonderful examples to finish I think this is done with a an italic felt tip nib and beautifully done to and here we have what is really an excellent drawing of the interior of Ashley Castle
