Hi all! I inherited this bike from my dad around 15 years ago and it sat collecting dust until last year when I started to pick up cycling.

Can anyone tell me anything about this bike? I know it was his pride and joy, but that was probably close to 20 years ago!

All I’ve done is replace the wheels (previous ones were misaligned and had small cracks on them).

I’m Unsure weather it’s worth it to upgrade some other parts (groupset for example) or look to buy a newer bike. For reference, I’m looking at entering some Sportives / 70.3 triathlons and would like a nice but comfy ride that’ll do me well as I start to take cycling a bit more seriously.

Thanks!!

It’s a great bike, a Trek 5200 with a full ultegra group set! Everyone rode these when I started twenty years ago with a group your dad’s age. I wouldn’t upgrade a thing other than the wheels which you have already done. (Mine cracked too.) My only suggestion is to get the handle bars lower by removing a spacer or two and maybe flipping the stem. In the end, it’s the motor that counts.
