I got this for 50 euros and really like the looks and feel of it! Apparently it’s been standing in a barn since the former owner’s dad stopped using it for exercise sometime in the 70s. He said it’s been to the bike shop once since then for a general checkup (I guess the tires for example were changed, they look to be in quite okay condition).
Trying to figure out the exact model and maybe year. Especially the lugs look quite unique (to my untrained eye), and I cannot seem to find many pictures of Peugeots with those exact ones. Does anyone here know? Also looking to learn about the rims: is the pattern just an aesthetic touch or does it serve a purpose?
The only change I plan on making for now is finding a new front derailleur – not a big fan of these plastic pushrod Simplexes.
Many thanks in advance!

Peugeot made so many different models in so many different countries finding an *exact* model and year can be quite futile.
However, I would guess this is a ’60s UO8, based on the cottered cranks, componentry, and use of wing nuts to secure the wheels.
You might be able to find date codes on the components that would help you narrow down the year more. Google “french bicycle components date codes” to see if better info exists out there.
The wheels have a 1978 or 78 in a triangle for the year. If they are original then it’s a 1978. Look at the rear derailleur it should have a date on it as well. I would guess a 78 uo8. Very similar to my 72 uo8.
It looks like your rd was changed, should be simplex. Your brakes and shifters look original. My fork has chrome on the bottom, they might have changed that to paint later. I have pictures of my peugeot on here. I know mine is all original because I’m the original owner.
Looks different than mine. Mine is red with gold lettering on the lable.
Thanks for all the comments! After stepping up my googling efforts a bit I think I found the right match. It looks like a PL8 with the fenders, light and luggage rack removed. [Here’s a German Peugeot catalog from 1979/80](https://www.bikeboompeugeot.com/Brochures%20Germany/Peugeot%201979-1980%20Germany%20Brochure/Peugeot%201979%201980%20Germany%20Brochure%20PL8%20J8.jpg), all the parts and even the color looks to be the same.
Given the 78 stamps on the wheels of my bike I guess it’s late 70s, same as the catalogue.
