Who would be faster? A professional Motocross racer riding an old and tired $2,000 4 Stroke dirt bike, or an amateur weekend warrior riding a state of the art $20,000 500cc 2 Stroke monster…Let’s find out!
I was always raised to think that results in MX came down to a riders talent and not necessarily the performance or pedigree of his machine. To our Pro and his Steam for the Day Ed Bradley is a former Grand Prix motocross racer and one of the most respected magazine test riders in the nation he’s been there done that and seen it all he’s smooth stylish and super fit and he also owns this track so it’s safe to say that he knows his way

Around Doncaster motorpark today he’ll be riding this 2009 KTM 250 SXF the bike might look fairly pretty and she might have some nice Parts on her but there’s no doubt about it this is an old out ofd fourstroke complete with a kickart and a carb this is certainly a cheap bike

Nowadays we’ve called it a $2,000 machine and fair enough someone might pay more for it but others myself included would certainly pay a lot less no matter how you slice it Ed is definitely going to be outgunned here against a fierce opponent Sean Smith is our resident test rider here on the channel he’s the definition of a weekend warrior he absolutely loves to ride and he rides a lot but racing has never been his job and to be fair he only really got into the sport as an

Adult sha does race at a good National expert level but still that’s a long way off the Grand Prix circuit where Ed cut his teeth today sha will have the pleasure of riding the wizilla YZ 500 our special build monster two stroke started out Life as a brand new YZ 250

Before we outfitted it with the awesome BRC racing yzm 500 conversion kit we went to town on this bike and completed the build with lots of Parts including the harm wheels and the Huga pipe it’s safe to say that the costs of a build like this soon add up being a big 500

The wizilla obviously packs a massive punch in the power department but she still handles like a dream it’s going to take one hell of a ride from Ed to bring down sha and the yed 500 but before we drop the flag and get this race underway

You ghost of pine for helping us do what we do okay so this is how our test is going to work we’re going to play a game of cat and mouse I’m going to set Sean Rider off first and then a set amount of time later we’re going to set

Our Pro Rider off and he’s got three laps to catch up sha on the wizilla 500 yeah let’s go racing so this race is going to be a thre laap Dash and we decided that 15 seconds would be the Head Start afforded to sha on board the wizilla that’s a hell of a gap for a freelap race let’s see if Ed can close it

Down he’s looking good to start things off it’s like red rag tur SW dropping the Flag it’s worth noting that both of our Riders are roughly the same age so it is a fair test in that regard what’s not so fair is the performance of the bikes obviously sha has way more power at his disposal on board the wizilla but Ed is

Looking good on board the 2009 kgm 250 SXF right now [Applause] everyone that has ridden the wizilla so far has absolutely loved it and they’ve said how usable that power is with the counterbalance shaft on the BRC motor ground’s quite icy so we’re going to be little bit smooth with the th carry and speed and it’s safe to say that sha has

Ridden this bike more than anyone else in the world and it’s safe to say that he’s done a few Laps on board the wizilla since the project was completed at the tail end of 2022 and he’s looking good on the bike today and it’s sounding good as well and

Here comes Ed looking smooth stylish and fast on the KTM popping up the front wheel there the suspension on this is quite soft so that’s quite handy today with it being hard and Dry So this is our first chance to really gauge the gap between our two Riders there sha our amateur on board the wizilla and that bike is sounded so sweet and there’s Ed so sha still has quite a nice advantage over the pro Rider on the 2009 KTM can he hang on to it for two more laps it’s going to be a big ass for Shan Ed is slowly but surely closing in but Sean’s using all the power of the big 500 there to try and keep in front of the pro Rider on the 254 Stroke Ed didn’t get too much time to get used to this bike he only had a 15 minute session this morning to get warmed up and the bike definitely isn’t set up for him either as he mentioned suspension way too soft for him so three laps One that down oh there we go then that’s lap one complete still got good gap on him sh crosses the line great view from the Drone to see the gap between the two let’s see where he is around here oh he’s catching me oh dear Here Comes Ed on the gas he is

Definitely trying he’s still quite way ahead sha is giving this 100% but he’s starting to feel Ed lurking there now he’s starting to look over his shoulder that’s rule number one Don’t Look Back short W he’s on it he’s absolutely flying on the 09 absolutely flying look at him

And here comes Ed he’s closing the Gap slowly but surely they’re almost on the same straight now he’s absolutely tearing on that thing who would have thought it $22,000 Bike make a bit of progress Now but Ed is starting to run out of time here we’re almost halfway through the race we’re about halfway through and again the Drone shot showing us exactly where our players are on track and it’s safe to say that Ed is giving this 100% effort here we go then let’s gauge where

They are oh the Gap is closer now the Gap is so much closer than it was last lap wo oh man is he caring on that thing here we go can see him now so the carrot down goes in front of Ed he can see sha now

He can see the wizilla he’s got one more lap to close in but then he has to make the pass he’s done the hard work now he’s closed the Gap but now he has to execute a pass to take over the race lead and take this win

Can I hold him off I can hear him I can hear him and I know that sha is not going to just roll over and let Ed have this one Sha’s got a bit of bulldog in him that’s for sure oh man he’s proper on me last up come

On red is absolutely flying on the 250 now got a lap to make an overtake now there we go last lap across the line one more lap to go for Sean can he hang on to it Ed is absolutely on it on for the 254 stroke he is so close

Now look at the power of the wizilla coming through there in the turn God man I can hear him now can in oh he’s on me now they’re in the same turn now this is getting close this is getting tight with less than one lap to

Go he’s going to eat some Roost off the old 500 I can smell the two stroke K oh he’s on God this is going to be close I can feel on the roof here we go oh he’s coming up the inside see if we can get back on him and there we have it Ed has pulled the trigger up the inside of sha there

To make the pass and take over the race lead but sha looks Keen to make a counter pass can he stay on the rear wheel can he stay close enough to make a pass back on Ed before this race is over we’ve got just under half a lap to go

Got half lap left so much Corner speed on that and Ed stretching off into the distance now scrubbing over the two tabletops sha rode a superb race The Edge quality shining through here in the end man oh man he done look at that he’s done good and

Proper fair play to Shan he did ride really well there but there’s just no stopping the quality of a former ground pre racer here he he’s got me and here they come across the line Ed takes the win victory, sure not too far behind There what a mate well done fair play to you on that what an awesome race man that was so much fun to film and I think the lads had a lot of fun out on track I hope you guys had fun watching fair play
