Hi all, first post here and bike newbie so please be gentle

As you can tell from the state of my living room I am converting this originally single speed Fuji ‘classic’ 2010 to a geared cassette. I have already cold-set the frame, so the only remaining issue is finding the correct derailleur hanger to fit onto my frame.

I do not have a bolt/hole on the frame for attaching the derailleur, so bought a claw type (pic 3) hoping to make it work but as seen (pic 2) it doesn’t fit right.

Does anybody know which derailleur would fit my frame, directly to the axel nut ? I’ve found the SRAM UDH which looks promising but would like some advice before purchasing another part.

Thank you for your input !

  1. You just need a dropout hanger adapter

Paste this into google: ” Rear Derailleur Hanger Drop Out Single Speed Convert”

And this isn’t a claw type derailleur, you’ve got a bolt type derailer with a generic hanger in the photo.

Claw type derailleur looks like this: [link](https://spiritedcyclist.com/cdn/shop/products/RD3102.jpg?v=1682831865)

Look for a “claw” derailer hanger. The one in the photo you have was made for a specific frame with a second hole in a very specific place with a very specific dropout shape, which is not what’s on your frame. [Edit: on second thought, I’m not 100% certain that a claw hanger will work on your frame, but it’s close.]
You can also try “Derailleur hanger for track ends.” Fyxation, Origin8, and Problem Solvers make something like this that might work.

The SRAM UDH will only fit on frames made SPECIFICALLY for UDH, which means only the past year or two.

A derailleur won’t fit your frame with a claw mount adapter or any other derailleur hangers. These are intended for frames that are designed with those hangers in mind.

You **may** be able to get away with something like a “horizontal dropout hanger” or the ProblemSolvers universal hanger.

Track frames aren’t designed with derailleurs in mind.

  4. just clamp the derailleur hanger behind the nut on the axle through the big hole and you should be good (ish)

It might be a bit tricky with the chain fitted as your frame isn’t designed really for derailleur gears, if you are really fussy about gear alignment then you might need to get a new one and there are some that are designed like old school mech hangars

things like this ~(but note this one is best for horizontal drop outs facing the other way

then there are track frame specific things like this

notice how it is held on with the axle/nut a bit like your one is. This one looks beefier and stronger but in principle is the same.

If you use the slot in the one you have it might work but its ending up a bit high and might not get best clearance, if you use the hole it will hang a bit lower and should work better especially with your extra large low gear on the freewheel.

I’m more worried about the flimsiness of it rather than the position but this applies to a lot of standard derailleur hangers.

Your old school derailleur is unlikely to really engage with that lowest/largest gear as it not really designed to, it will likely hit the big cog rather than shift up to it. If you want full range of gears you need a more modern idea of rear mech most likely. Its perfectly useable if your cog doesn’t have the massive mega range low gear though

Fyxation used to sell a kit to do exactly this. Tensioner compatible hanger with a 120mm spaced cassette hub.
