Here in the Caribbean we celebrate our rich and diverse Heritage every day in every partt so usually on my days off I like to stay at home watch Netflix and you know just relax and take it easy but you know I feel like I just do that so

Often and you know this life is just passing me by so I decided to link up with FIA from inseason tours and she’s actually going to take me on a mini food tour of Tran Tobago we’re going to hit up some spots that I’ve never been

Before and I’ve lived in Trad for you know so many odd years all my life and it’s time to get out of my comfort zone and see this country so let’s go so morning everybody I’m here with Emily as you heard she’s actually going

To go on a tour today so we’re going to do a little bit of eating a little bit of sightseeing and then um see how she enjoys her time off yeah Em going to get educated good just one question though have you ever been passy

Lighthouse um yes to film the show is it that that’s not true that’s not true anybody who knows me knows that I have family in south or my half of my family is from South so of course I’ve been Lighthouse however I don’t go there as often as I probably should have the

Average sharan um as I’m think it’s not like it’s this like some kind of you know some people think it is th no but I I am not one of those honestly I go south to eat something anyway but I’m excited to see even more of it cuz South is more than

Just uh obscure please can you this is this is sounding horrible also have fireworks you never know when you’re going to need a fireworks sparkl on top of your cake so we always have to have these on Deck oh my God they also double as great flares

So if we’re in an emergency situation like too much Rosy pick me up we got it sorry I have all this crap my mouth I had a shower Cup on so ratchet but you filming all this all right time to go right so Emily we are it’s what time

It’s pretty early in the morning I think we need to get some breakfast to start the day yes and what do you usually have for breakfast um usually have maybe a smoothie or I have like toast and eggs mhm or I’m I’m don’t discriminate like I could have food for breakfast too right

There’s if there’s good enough leftover food I’ll eat that as well you know it’s pretty much I always have a cup of coffee which I had already so okay um yeah well we’re actually going to be having breakfast in Porter Spain downtown just like all the people who

Commute every day to work or come off a shift and they have to go downtown to get something to eat or they’re passing through so we’re going to be with all these people it’s going to be exciting apparently I’m not going to tell you where we’re going yet apparently where

We’re going has a bomb spread and we eating no we’re not drinking no smoothies this morning we’re going to eat like food food yeah well I love meom sprad so I’m excited like you I try to keep it healthy really healthy um I try to avoid

All the cowb juice the heavy bakes and whatever but there are days where I really just want to have a nice bake and saltfish like the bake has to be coconut bake not coconut flavored Bak coconut bake with chunks of coconut you know or shredded coconut that I can actually I

Have to actually go on a floss after I eat like a crunchy yes it has to have that texture and some saltfish to go with it but the funny thing is you know a lot of people don’t even know the where saltfish came from do you know how

You where soulfish came from like how we started yeah how we started eating sfish well the thing is with soulfish is that um you know soulfish is found all over the world um and it was obviously because of people traveling especially the Portuguese in terms of coming to the

Caribbean the Portuguese came and while they were traveling to tr and traveling around the region um they would pack allfish on the boats um because it was a it was preserved fish and um easy to cook and they would actually feed the slaves well not not all these ships not

That I know of but from what I’ve read and heard um people talk about they would feed these slaves that way um and then you know you have things like Acra which actually is West African mixed with Portuguese because in West Africa in Benin especially Benin Ghana um and I

Think Sagal there is actually a dish called akara mhm and it’s actually akara and akara is a vegetarian dish um it’s like a ball made with um black ey peas M and so you have that influence with the Portuguese bringing the salted cod so when you put it together you have Acra

Got it right so you know we when we say we a Melting Pot we really are a melting Potter a lot of the ingredients for um the food that we eat today came from them only having so little to work with yeah um and getting it from there from

The slave masters from the plantation owners so we just had to kind of use what we were given um hence the aara right so I kind of hope that they have Acra this morning to be honest like I like Acra for breakfast me too I like Acra in general in general so for

Breakfast and CH if there’s ACA I’ll e It So that’s a fried bake with smok Caron and planting and a um coconut baked whole wheat with planting and Tall fish and slight pepper yeah car bloated yeah but your is so much more healthy than mine and we have PR PR I know I always get excited when we start off these

Things anything is the bake the the actual bake the coconut bake even though it’s whole wheat is as big as their face right so I feel like to go easy we have a long way to go guys so you got smooth hairen and planting and pled on Friday

Look at this goodness soulfish planting mhm m breakfast is started so good I am full I know I very satisfied so good I mean it really was a good breakfast I think the all fish was perfect um it really woke us upo the bake also kind of

Tast it had like kind of bar texture So Soft I’ll have the fry B next time all right so we’re going to go to our next stop yeah we’re going to the Mount now Mount St Benedict have you been when was the last time you went Emily actually I

Had a uh my grandmother’s uncle was a priest living in Mount St Benedict um but he passed away like L year when I was 7 years old or something like that and um I haven’t been up since so um I’m eer to check that out and kind of just

See it from an adult perspective Mountain Benedict was actually opened up by three priests back in the early 1900s and um yeah it’s they actually it’s a monastery up there and there’s also a rehab center there’s a a hotel a mini bed and breakfast called P guest house

Which a lot of um bird watchers from abroad they come and they stay up there because they get a lot of birds going to Parks okay for some OD reason I think they have a couple feeders but I think just maybe even the height and how it’s

Surrounded by all the trees and what have you so you have a lot of bird washers to PK’s guest house and PK’s guests are actually host they have tea on afternoon oh really yep nice so there we go the Mount St Benedict the mount um was established Mountain Benedict was

Established or the ABY was established in 1912 it’s about 250 acres of land 1912 W it feels like it’s older yeah and there’s the um this is church there they actually just finished I don’t know if you can see how high up we are yeah so nice too and the view is

Magnificent and the good thing about here is that it’s open to the public and it’s free so people sometimes come here during lunchtime or they come here after work just to get some peace um they come and they eat lunch I’ve seen families actually come and bring like a full

Spread and just enjoy the Ambiance the only thing is I tell people all the time you have to be very respectful in fact that it’s a place of worship so you know you can’t bring no music and you just come here looking for like some tranqu

Cuz it say I just read the um the bo there with all the information I said that how the Benedictine monks they um The Virtue that they embody is peace packs which is Latin for peace um so which is which is great it’s nice to have P like this I know Benedictine

Monks you know the the The Lure benedic there’s a that’s made by the Benedictine mons in in France sh chuse chuse but the thing is the thing is um I think that’s what it is called yes you’re quite right yeah the thing is about is that yeah when you come here

The only you can get is p you see how as I told you you see how are like they are act treats up here and they put them up here purposely cuz to get back down is a hell of a work yeah cuz it’s

PX um and it was started in 1997 by I think a guy named father Sandy mhm he and his business partner they actually passed away in 2017 made the recipe of of course they left the the recipe the secret recipe with somebody else and they now make yogurt and yogurt drinks

Mhm so they make um I think the yogurt flavors they have um my favorite I think a lot of people love is the Almond mhm they have passion fruit they have strawberry they have sour sa um vanilla yeah the passion fruit is lovely they have vanilla they have quite a few quite

A few um flavors so we’re going to have some it’s so nice though yeah just so nice with wish sometimes you just like I wish I could just pop my phone as well it’s the real deal no set of preservatives or anything yeah they talk

About a lot on their website and how you can use it they tell you exactly how they create the yoga they tell you about um what the ingredients so if you are leged anything or what’s up you can go and check what the ingredients are as

Well as to give you tips on using on your face so you could use your the the the original packs you good as sensitive skin right here exactly flowless skin you know so um fun fact though about me I remember there’s a time I wanted to become well not wanted

To but I was like I wonder if I have to become a nun if that’s my vocation right so I was like you know I would definitely come up here and open a frozen yogurt place using the P FR PX yogurt and call it holy Cow frozen

Yogurt that sounds you should you should go PR it right now if anybody takes my idea just cut me my check one time we have this time stabed oh Jesus we both got the yogurt drink so they have um they have the yogurt and they also have the drink and I got my

Favorite almond you got gu Gua so let’s try it out so CH to breakfast number two as you said cleanser all right Mhm m a scker thicker than a [Laughter] snickle this actually tast really good though this is yummy this is actually delicious what kind of sour up is that a holy sour up sourour no that that sour so tasting different this is from Jesus this is so Different so we’re at the temple sea which is in watero and um it was first built the first temple was actually built by a devout um Hindu by name of sudas SAU and he built it on um a Sugar Factory well sugar company’s land so

What happened is that it was in his land so they actually demolished it oh my gosh but he was so determined to build a temple so he ended up looking for a space very close to the SE yeah which is where we are now and this one man with

His one bicycle took 25 years to build a temple CL CC and it’s spectacular now this isn’t the finished his his work but the government what they did is that they actually in 1985 they actually built this temple in his honor um so yeah this is where we are now it’s a

Beautiful well we went in and it’s gorgeous and it’s very calming just like the mount yes um very very very calming it’s a cremation side as well um anybody can come in here they have opening hours think it opens at 8:00 in the morning it

Said 600 to 6 6 to 6 okay good so kind of sun ups and sun down correct cuz the sunset here is extraordinary um so you can come in you can relax you can walk around um um and it’s just a nice place to just go if you’re in central yeah I

Know people come here for for to go to Deb and that kind of thing but you know you can make us a pit stop here and just kind of relax and then go and eat yourself into aoma exactly so this beautiful sign here just CAU my eye

Anytime I see these You Know This Acronym boom boom boom it’s just got to come in so let’s try it she’s going to have the chicken I I passed so on the way to Temple and you see I saw a sign that said they orinal fresh fried chicken and the origin

Exactly I heard from a couple of sources that this place is worth the tribe never really in this area so and I’m a friy chicken not corn but a l them mhm um I’m ready to try this show them what the chicken looks like I feel like I’ve never seen some it looks

Very H me but you can see the seasoning that’s what I love about it’s nice and fresh it smells really good though you not like chicken it’s smelling real nice see are you sure you don’t want I’m fine I’m good okay fine what do you like enjoy enjoy how is it it’s

Eat I’m not a big morning doubles person yeah morning doubles M I know I kind of kill the vibe right there but but speaking my truth my my thing with with doubles is not so much everything in the doubles is is is supposed to be consistent right you see you see bar

Tanduri oh tanduri spat um so it’s six yeah um I have included my Spice Bomb Asian pepper oil in the marinade so you get those flavors coming through as well right um it took a lot of experimenting to get the right texture to get the juiciness to get the right flavor but um

You’ll see when you taste it afterwards um the six fash coocks I do so far I’ve been offering it cooked um and that’s been going great but I thought it’ll be also convenient if you can have it frozen raw vacuum packed this for example is the Sichuan full chicken and literally just

Put it in submerged in water for 30 minutes and it’s totally defrosted into the oven a nice color and then finish them in the um it could be a was a nice Crch please take the camera off when I intim moment my please try the Peruvian sauce which cuz sour fries a lot as well yeah so so I mean my knife went through that so easily was like I was like no I mean like that wow like that it literally
