Hi all, I’ve just bought this (early eighties?) Kabuki Submariner for $60, and am planning on using it for winter duty when there is enough salt on the road to discourage me from using a nicer steel bike.

This bike is made of stainless steel with aluminum lugs. It has a Suntour 7 RD, Suntour Vx FD, and has bizarrely had it’s original stem shifters exchanged for Dura-Ace shifters. It weighs approximately 29 1/2 pounds, so not exactly the pinnacle of performance, but oh well. The original drop bars have been swapped with something more befitting a beach cruiser.

This bike will probably be used on mostly dry roads with occasional ice/snow patches, and the rare snowy day, although in conditions as seen in the photo I’ll probably just drive. I was wondering if there were any suggestions on tires that would fit for this use, as well as any other modifications that would make winter use more bearable? Tire size is 27×1 1/4.

Also- what is the bump on the brakes?
