Hi all, apologies if this seems like a stupid question. Am still new to this.
I have a 520 with a mix match of gears Sora shifters, Alivio rd, recently it got stuck whilst on the road, so it doesn’t inspire confidence, am looking to upgrade to reliable 1x group set, am not lugging things all the time so I don’t really need very high climbing gears.
Do you all have any suggestions on the group set I should go for? (Predominantly aiming for road use to my neighbouring country)
Read hub is shimano m475 which should be able to accommodate 11 speed.

Go for whatever is the most expensive Shimano groupset that fits your budget.
But the problem you encountered was caused by maintenance or adjustment issues, not the quality of your groupset.
What caused you to get stuck?
Why are you looking to upgrade to a 1x? I see it come up here a lot more than I’d expect but I’m never sure why.
You don’t need a whole new drivetrain to go 1x. If possible, remove your chainrings and buy a compatible narrow wide chainring to replace your middle ring, and some compatible chainring bolts or spacers.
If you really want a foolproof drivetrain, get Shimano Alfine. They have an 11 speed internal gear hub which is great and offers a gear range equivalent to an 11-45t cassette. It requires nearly zero technique to shift, as you can even shift without pedalling.

I wouldn’t go to a 1x on a dedicated touring bike, I’d upgrade the drivetrain with a more reliable 2×10 setup. Grx 400, tiagra, microhift sword 2×10 would all be great choices but even using older deore with bar end shifters would work wonders.
This is a touring bike. It’s supposed to have very low gears
